So here is an economical way to save a few lbs when you are running out of low hanging fruit. This starts with 2 x 16” carbon tubes ordered online for $30/pr. The weight is about 2.5oz for the pair.
Going to delete the hood struts and use these are prop rods. I’m having a hard time getting weight off the front of the car so really looking to lose every Oz I can in front of the firewall. After testing them I was worried that if I bumped the hood with my head or something it would crash down. Not now… I notched the ends so they slide over the ball and then twist the rod 90* and they kind of lock in place. My head thanks me lol I also deleted the trunk struts. The trunk will stay open without them once you lift it past a certain point. To close you have to lower it gently about 3/4 and the drop it and it locks shut. It’s a little heavy as oem but I have a carbon trunk so it’s not a bad as a stocker would be lifting it open. I want to give a shout out to roastbeef I know a lot of guys are looking at what I’m doing with this car for inspiration… but I’m looking at his build for my inspiration. To me he’s the king of lightweight on the e92. If you haven’t seen the remarkable lengths he’s going through to get his e92m3 DCT under 3000lbs his build thread is worth a look. The strut delete was his idea and he also gave me a few tips to shave some more weight with some adjustments (cuts and holes lol) to the hood and trunk hinges. You can check out the Beefy Build here: https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1852215

Wow you weren't kidding. Just read that entire thread. Those door skins were awesome.

I want those door skins lol. I actually have carbon door cards on order which will save 15-17lbs total but those skins are worth 46lbs vs the metal skins (both with all oem hardware and door cards, windows, all oem functionality). Me want… maybe get someday lol

They'd definitely compliment each other nicely. Are they the oem style door cards or like beefy's?

https://fiberlab.store/doors/54-bmw-...e_doors_f.html You can see them installed in this build thread about halfway down the page: https://www.m3post.com/forums/showth...756887&page=12 I chose these because they were the only ones I saw that kept some semblance of an arm rest and can keep the oem stuff like speaker and switchgear easily.

I kind of like the odd shape of the arm rest. Not sure why, but it reminds me of ganador mirrors. Like I really don't know why it reminds me of them but I like them so.. I'll roll with it

Spent a little time on realoem this morning. I think I found another 2lbs but need to see if I can make it work. Sounds silly but if I can find 10 or 15 more mods like this it’ll get me under 3000lbs without carbon doors and keeping all interior so why not. This part is only about $27 but I’m not sure how it will play with the underbody bracing from the rear…

So looking at that connecting support some more I noticed some other bracing thats different for the M and series. The m the rear subframe bracing comes forward and is bolted to the car sharing bolts with the “connecting support”. The series coupes the bracing comes forward and is welded to the that same “connecting support”.
E92M3: Series Coupes: And then on the M the little braces that run from the subframe to the outer chassis are welded to the long braces going forward, so it’s all one assembly: On the series cars these are 2 separate pieces, that shorter support and the long one that goes to center: So now I’m on a tangent wondering why all these differences and what to make of them lol

IIRC people have removed the brace all together to fit a larger exhaust on some of the n54 equipped E9Xs and they said they did not notice a difference. Granted, they might not track their car.

I also didn’t understand what the advantage of the m3 is, although it seems to be as it should be, but it’s not there ... just like the e93 struts are more serious than those of the m3, everything is relative

Awesome build man.
Thinking about other weight savings you could make on the front 1/3 of the car. Have you considered deleting front foglights?

Good suggestion, thanks. I’m probably going to delete them. I’ve owned the car for 5 years and never once used them so why not lol

My large carbon fiber panel arrived yesterday so I finished my new rear seat delete.
My old Hanbin seat delete was 15lbs this one is 5lbs and that includes carbon panel, cargo net, gaskets, carpet, and Velcro straps all together. (I edged the panel on the sides with the same OEM rubber trim that seals the cowl to the hood. That helps a lot with sound deadening because the trunk with no rear seat was like an echo chamber of diff whine and exhaust noise lol)

Hi -with 985 entries in this thread, there is no way I can read all entries to see if you changed over to the E9X M3 cowl. It will shave about 10 lbs. This mod used to be cheap at around $270 including charcoal filters. Its now >$700 last time I checked. Picture of my under hood setup (sorry to clutter your nice build thread) with M57 diesel.
