Was it ever £200? I did it about 4 years ago and it was a lot more than that.

Hi, Bit of a noob question but how would I know what what audio set up I have in my car? Are there any clues/giveaways to help me identify if it's bog standard or has extra options?

Around £250 according to the first poster in 2008. I'm sure I saw someone had bought it new for £220 at some point

Just come across the receipt the other day.

Wiring issue. Need helps

My car is 2005/9 Pre-LCI E90. I bought this kit from a dealer. Yesterday, I was trying to install this kit to my car.

According to the installation instruction, I need to connect A5-A10 to X9385 and X9386 on the right side and connect A11-A16 to X9387 and X9388.

However, when I opened up the carpet (passenger side) and looked for X9385 and X9386, I saw two connectors which is joint with 3 wires each. But the 3 wires color are BL/SW and BL/BR. I did not see other color wires like RT/SW, RT/BR, GN/SW and GN/BR.

Two questions
1. Are the connectors in the picture X9385 and X9386?

2. Does any one know where to connect RT/SW, RT/BR, GN/SW amd GN/BR wires to? I supposed I need to split the 3 wires on X9385 and X9386, and connect the wires as following

1. BL/SW and BL/BR to the wires which lead to radio head unit
2. RT/SW and RT/BR to the wires which connect to mid hight
3. GN/SW and GN/BR to the wires which connect to bass.

Need suggestions.

just upgraded my E90 LCI at the weekend ...much clearer and better then before although bass still lacking...

very annoyed at BMW for

1) labelling the some of the wiring incorrectly (and knowing about it!) and having to re-strip my doors again to correct it.
2) first sending the wrong tweeter covers which are incorrectly listed as applicable to the saloon

a really great guide I discovered (afterwards) on how to install and he also had the problem with incorrectly labelled wires

Struggling to find the connections around the door sills..car is a 2008 E92 with 663 stereo, are they likely to be close to under the seat? I've lifted the drivers seat but still cant really see anything that looks like the connections?

Edit; trying to fit the 684 kit

Managed to find the connectors but im only getting sound through the bass and tweeter? Is this because the tweeter wiring is wrong, and do I have to cut the connectors and re crimp them?

Edit; of course I had plugged the mid speaker in...

Quick note for people retrofitting CIC with the Alpine retrofit also:
  1. Recode CIC so that [AUDIO_SYSTEM_CIC] = [hifi] rather than [standard]
  2. Then, play around with the switch at the bottom of the Alpine amp to find what you prefer.

Makes a massive difference, as [standard] setting has too much treble and seemed to have no mid/low.

I think that removing the door trim and fitting the tweeters is well documented in another thread. I also had to lift the rear seats (which required far more force than I expected!), remove the backrest side section (not at all difficult with the backrest folded down), lift out the boot floor and remove the door sill trim in order to access the wiring under the carpet.

As for how it sounds, well I'm not an audiophile but I can say that it's an improvement but not as good as I expected. What I didn't like most about the stock sound system was that when I wanted to play music loudly, the sound went into distortion. This is fixed now with the Alpine amp. I was actually quite happy with the old sound quality (at low to normal volume levels) even though I knew there where no tweeters. I would have the bass up to +6 and treble up to +4 and to me this sounded quite good, 'warm' even. With the new speakers yes I now hear the the high frequencies like symbols but because I was so used to not hearing them before to me it sounded quite tinny and hissy so initially I wasn't impressed. I've turned the treble down to +2 and I'm now quite happy with this. The other thing that didn't impress me and is still an issue is that whenever a male DJ with a low voice is talking you get a humming sound or echo under the lowest parts of his speech. I've had to turn down the bass to +2 to avoid this humming sound. Otherwise I'm quite glad that I upgraded. Certainly it was worth it in order hear undistorted music.

The other thing I'm pleased about is that the upgrade cost me €330 (and 2 days not the quoted 2.5 hours! although now that I've done it I could possibly do it again in the 2 hours) rather than the €650+ cost (for Ireland, we're taxed to the hilt here) of the hifi upgrade on the options list.
Is the sound noticeably louder? I want this upgrade to deliver a cleaner louder sound that I can't talk over when all the way up. Will I be disappointed?

So to update my install, I bought the old kit when i needed the new as mine is LCI but an early one. Anyways went ahead and wired it in successfully except they still haven't corrected the labelling error on the crossovers so when I first fired it up it was all bass & treble and nothing coming out of the mids. So whipped the door cards off, swapped the wiring around on hte crossovers and bang instant and loverley upgrade in sound. Next thing to do is to recode the car and then I'll be done but even now the improvement in sound is immense.

Unhappy Base stereo < ECS HiFi Retrofit

2011 328i Coupe LCI

I want to upgrade my base stereo to this http://www.ecstuning.com/ES2178579/

Ive downloaded the install instructions but I am still unclear about what to crimp . Does anyone have any more detailed photos of the Install?

Do I have to do some sort of crossover to my underseat woofers? I dont understand that step either!

Ive done a lot of reading about this but still install but not enough I guess. Can anyone help??? Thanks

You do not need to crimp anything your's will be just plug & play!

In addition to information on this site I found the following guide very helpful
