Swapped on the winter wheels/tires. Great for the weather. Absolutely sh*ty for the appearance. 😄
Need to do a suspension refresh next spring. Any thoughts on the essentials? |

My new to me drivers cupholder (from a 66k mile car) was a bit too slow to open. Popped out both drivers and passenger, cleaned them up, and swapped the slowing gears. Hopefully that'll even everything out

Finally got the time to finish painting the rear calipers today. Blood red in the shade, bright blood red in the sun. It's subtle yet fittingly aggressive for the stock brakes

Replaced my vacuum hose and grommet to my brake booster!
....and broke a bleed screw on my rear right wheel. But it's secure and not leaking. I'll deal with it later. |

Didn't do it today, but last Thursday i replaced my expansion tank which seemed to have a slow seepage along one of the seams. I could hear a whistling sound coming from that seam probably indicating that there's a crack.
I didn't drain the coolant completely, instead i pumped it off from the tank using fluid pump removing nearly 0.75 gallons of coolant. Disconnected expansion tank hose fitting using lots of wd40 and quickly moved it up so that no more coolant drains out. Previously, I had replaced a lower radiator hose which also started to leak and my heat started to work, however, it gradually became cooler until I started to get no heat again. Now the heat is getting better, I thought that I might have some other problems, but it gradually became better and today I was getting really hot air. Finally got rid of my airbag and seatbelt lights. It was throwing a BST error and I guess the small wear on the wire was enough. Cut the original one and soldered in one of the connectors/wires I got from Pick-N-Pull a few weeks ago. Buttoned everything back up, cleared codes and BAM! Lights gone!
I was also able to reset the FTM a couple of days ago, so now there are no idiots lights on anymore. But... Of course the next issues popped up. Hit sunroof switch to tilt it up and it made a couple of VERY loud cracks going up. Closed it and it didn’t even want to go all the way in. Had to fiddle with it to make it flush with the roof and decided that’s it. Not looking forward to trying to fix a sunroof, so I’ll probably just pull the fuse for now.

383 Maintenance
I could add to this thread practically every Monday morning...
This took a few weeks but culminated in success yesterday. So I was on a staycation a few weeks ago and on Wednesday of that week started an E90 tune-up session that was comprised of a CCV replacement / starter replacement/ and eventually spark plugs replacement. The engine has increased it's oil consumption in the past few years, at 383,000 miles it's using about 3L per 10,000-mile OCI. I've also had some idle quality issues, especially with a cold engine. Some of that was resolved with replacing the very long-in-the-tooth AC compressor last summer. I surprisingly cracked the valve cover vent CCV hose a few years back when replacing the ESS and VCG (and did a real good temporary field repair), and there are theories that the CCV stops separating oil and vapor at higher mileages, so I wanted to replace it. While-yer-in-there... says to replace the starter. My car was starting fine, so I was hesitant to replace it, but the starter was original. However, once the intake manifold is off, replacing the starter is and extra 1/2 hours work, so it makes sense in most cases where the car is at high mileage. A new rebuilt Bosch starter from getBMWparts.com was only $180. Lastly, in the past month or so, the engine picked up a misfire/hesitation issue. The misfire was just an instant and only happened at high-load, low-RPM situations. Low RPM being below 2,000. The spark plugs were almost due being at 95,000 miles since the last time I replaced them. I was hoping new plugs were going to be the simple cure. Just finished up yesterday with the new plugs. I went with NGK's. Bosch were in there from the last time I replaced the coils and plugs at 282,000. So to sum up, after replacing the CCV, cleaning the intake manifold real well, which had a lot of oil gunk in it and some clogged orifices, and new spark plugs, the engine is running as good as it was the day I bought the car 13+ years ago. The new starter spins the engine far quicker than the tired old original starter. The hesitation/misfires are gone and squeezing on the throttle is smooth as butter. It is truly amazing how well the N52 ages; at 383,400 miles, with a bit of maintenance, it runs perfectly new. Hopefully the oil consumption drops a bit with the new CCV installed.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Anyway, my wife wanted to go antiquing yesterday and the shop just happened to be near some nice mountain roads. I would have rather been in the M3 but I need cargo capacity when she antiques. This is a fun little car for an underpowered automatic. Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr |

I'd like to go red, but in the mean time I don't want to attract too much attention on my car. I got tons of mods, some are illegal in my area and I above all, I don't want to attract thief attention.... My option so far would be glossy black with white stickers. A darker red than your with metal flakes could be an great option. Or 3rd choice a dark bronze. VHT is the best paint imo, but very limited to colors. I'll try to clear them with Spray max 2k clear, best clear in a can on the market. I might considering powercoating, but there's no shop near my place |

The second time I went I was trying to get an alternator for a friend's truck who didn't have much money. They wanted basically the same price for a used one in questionable condition as a reman unit from Napa. I told them they were on crack and left. Haven't been to one since then.
