My car is lowered, so pot holes and turning sharply triggers the dashcam to save the clip as an 'event'. I am yet to check how does impact works in parking mode. Quote:
1- Battery voltage 2- number of hours recording (2, 3, 4...) I have set it to operate till the battery voltage reaches 11.7V. So how long does it record depends on multiple factors - Battery condition. If you do a lot of short trips, and battery is not charged fully then it will reach 11.7V quicker. - Most important is where you park and how much movement is going on there. Although the camera is constantly observing but turns on and record only if the motion is detected. I have parked it in front of the main entrance of a supermarket. So the door of that supermarket kept the camera constantly on and it kept recording. It took it approx 90 minutes to reach to 11.7 and it stopped recording. But if I park it in residential area where movement / motion is minimal then I am sure that it will last longer (will experiment further).

Finally ordered a dashcam! Decided on the DOD LS330W.
Does anyone know if it has a motion dector, so it will record when it senses the car has moved? For e.g. when parked up? I forgot to check. |

I am finding that with all these dash cams there are pros and cons, I too am interested in purchasing a dash cam preferably front and rear solution, currently narrowed it down to the BlackVue DR550GW-2CH everything is great but only 6 Mbps, The other dash cam is the RoadHawk HD, this has a better bitrate of 12 Mbps but there is no WiFi (iphone connectivity) no parking mode and the DR550GW comes with a rear separate camera.
The major benefit of the DR550GW is its compact design. However both models are compact enough to be positioned in front on the rear view mirror so mostly hidden from view. I have e-mailed to the UK distributer of BlackVue in asking if there is planned a update to the firmware to improve the bitrate, no response yet. The problem I have with the DOD LS330W is its size design and limited amount of memory storage just 2 hours as the bit rate is 15 Mbps and limited to a 32gb SD card! where the RoadHawk HD is able to use a 64Gb SD card. Current thinking purchasing the RoadHawk HD (for the front) and the RoadHawk 720 (for the rear) still would be cheaper than the DR550GW as a 2 channel solution, (as a IAM member can get 10% discount) but this offering does not offer WiFi or parking mode Last edited by Estoril Sport; 11-03-2013 at 02:47 PM.. |

I haven't read the entire thread, but if anyone has any questions, I just installed a blackvue dr500gw-hd in my E90 sedan (saloon hehe). Installed it without the power magic pro, hardwired to fuse box, parking mode works and it doesn't drain the battery because it runs all night till morning.
So far, very impressed. The WiFi is awesome so that I can use my phone to check for events and parking events.

So you do not have to turn it in manually each time when you start the car?

Blackvue 500 night time recoding is a let down and hence I looked for other. The best compromise b/w shape, function and recording was Lukas and doing its job well. Its not big DOD dash cams and its night time recoding is way better than blackvue.

Regardless, the impact sensor is always on and can be adjusted for its sensitivity. |

If you set that dash cam on your car when parked, motion sensor is important. Somebody may come from the front and hit your car at the side and carry on. You are not going to get any footage in that case.

Worst case scenario, if i cant set it permanently, i'll have to set it manually each time then. PITA but but i've bought it now and i guess its one of the downsides, if it can't be set permanently. To be honest i only got it for its day/night quality, anything else is a bonus |

Yes, you can permanently switch it on (motion detector).
watch this video i don't understand why "makkan00" is so negative and he is trying to prove that DODs' cameras are the worst cameras ever...even if the video says something else. Last edited by moral_hazard; 11-04-2013 at 02:26 PM.. |

Whole thread shows that who is trying to favour DOD cameras and clearly who is trying to bring the business to DOD cameras. Advance apologies if my comments hurts you, and DOD camers are functional but not practical in my list. Or lets say 'not enough'. You take it positively to improve the next model or you take it personally and start commenting as you did. Here are few things for you/ your company / affiliations to work on. 1- Change the shape of Dash cam. They are so fugly and only a minority will be buying that (sorry if it hurts you). 2- Add proper parking recording mode to it. 3- Add built in gps to it. 4- Potential wi-fi and supported application will be best selling point. If you read the whole thread, you can see that I have done quite a lot of research. From day one DOD cameras are excluded from my list due to the shape. If you read the thread carefully, you can see that Blackvue was my priority. Thanks to your videos and other research which I have done and I stayed clear from them. I bought COWON and I was not satisfied with the night recording. Also I found that the customer service of the company was poor and therefore I returned it. Then I bought Lukas, and tbh shape is not good but not as worst as DOD. Its fully functional with excellent vendor support and regular updates of firmware. Check their website and see how regular are they to update the firmware. It does more than what it says. I will give it 8.5/10 and 1.5 is lost due to its shape and lack of wi-fi. Bottom line is that nobody is perfect including myself. We all strive for perfection. And if the companies take the things positive, then they get the customers. If they keep the same fugly shape but concentrate on functional aspects, only limited people will buy that stuff. PS: The video you posted expose another negative aspect of DOD camera if I understood it correctly. If you turn on the motion sensor permanently, than it turns off itself if the next car is far away. That is insane. So in a way that is a drawback and you will have to turn it on every single time when you park it. I guess you guys need to work on its firmware to launch parking mode and you should have motion sensor function embedded in that to work automatically. And I take it as positive criticism for DOD to improve. And you take it me being negative. Each to their own then!
