Psychologist does researches on a lot of different things, from clinical studies of patient behaviors, to researches on drugs. Don't see that as being weird. A PSYCHIATRIST might be slightly more "Weird" as they are your typical shrink that people make fun of. However, what it really is, is to have someone who you can talk to. Like your best friend, who you tell everything to, and after that you feel better. Or people who feel the need to come onto this forum to "vent". So to actually pay someone to listen to you (who's not your friend) does seem quite odd, but to have someone who actually listens, can understand what you're talking about, and gives you sound, unbiased suggestions doesn't seem so bad to me.

In addition, for undergrad, unless it's something technical, it doesn't really matter what you major in anyways. I was using that as a stepping stone to get into grad school to eventually get a PHD or even go into law school.
