Notice he said they will run the car in a stock map. I want to know what kind of tune they are going to drop into the car. Also what kind of fuel system are we looking at?

I might have to get a 335 just so I can install these things! Good luck with the testing. I'll be looking forward to hear and see your progress

price, reliability, and customer service. ...of course being first does not hurt either. ASR is said to be pros, so i am hopeful.

Both GREAT company's. Would trust either for a turbo upgrade. Cannot wait to get some data on these bad boys and supporting mods etc.

Being first to the market always has it's benefits...
I'm glad you're tapping the knowledge of a longtime (relatively) N54 tuner, Shiv. Works out great for me because I already have a PROcede. Another reason not to go JB now. |

They have to some how retune the ECU if they are swapping out the twin turbo,s for a bigger single unit. You cant do that without re-mapping the ECU or use some kind of stand alone unit. There is also a lot more involved in it also.Maybe a different fuel pump, then theres the intake manifold, fuel injustors, etc, etc. Its just not as easy as replacing the turbo.

I guess like the other poster said about the block- we'll find out soon enough how tough it is. FWIW, my 6MT whines a little bit (at just 3k miles now) driving around on stock engine. I've barely thrown but a few hard shifts through it and no drag racing so I have to wonder how many how much power it can really handle. I've driven plenty of 5MT years ago that whined a little like this and held up well but at BMW prices, I'm a little, um, concerned. From the pictures of the turbos, it looks like they just machined out the stock housings for larger compressor and turbine so I would expect stock-style downpipes would fit as would intake tubing. 3" race downpipes are probably plenty for these turbos but I'm guessing we'll see more than just 4HP gain with a DP-back race exhaust with these babies. (on that note, every aftermarket part like IC, DP, exhaust etc should be a worth a bit more HP). Fuel system is going to be interesting. The fuel rail doesn't look too difficult to fix but the injectors and fuel pump- yeesh. I'd like to see what they have in mind. Watching with interest. Good work ASR!

scan through the many pages but wasn't sure if ASR answered about whether the stock engine/block/shaft can even handle what the new turbos are going to put out? it's one thing to have upgraded turbos, but it's another thing when one has to upgrade everything else as well. this is def. very interesting and i'll be keeping my eyes on this..
however, i think it will be hard decision when the next gen M3 comes out with TT V8.. i'm leaning towards the TT V8 for now |
