Is there a way to put the Cd in the ashtray area without the wire coming from the outside? Also, the other day the ashtray lid wouldn't open with the CD in - looked like that was causing the problem.

Based on some of the pictures I've seen, if you took off the trim and took out the ashtray, you may be able to run it down the back (under the radio headunit area) and out by the rear of the glovebox. But YMMV.

Yeah, you can take out the ashtray insert, or drill a hole in it and there's easy access from there to the back of the center console which leads to the glovebox. It's also easy to dismantle the concealed display so that it's a lot thinner, the casing it's in takes up quite a bit of unnecessary space.

I agree, which is why I have mine setup in the vent... But if somebody doesn't want to tear that apart then the next best easy place to install is that ashtray area. I didn't want mine there because I didn't want to look down, and it works really well in the AC vent actually.

guys, are you interested in the slim or color changed concealed displays? I've made contact with the guy over on radardetector.net and I've worked out some pretty good pricing if we can get atleast 5 people interested. LMK. If there is enough interest, I'll put up a post in the marketplace section and manage the list here so people do not need to go over to radardetector.net and register over there.

X2. Even placing the CD over the MPG (worthless gauge on my car), I felt like that was taking my eyes of the road too much.. Thats why I decided on having it on the dash so I can ride around with the V1 silent and am altered to anything with a quick flash of light to my lower left and my passengers never know whats going on.

Not at all... There's a picture of it in this thread already and you can check it out there when it's lit up. Just by chance the lights line up well with the slats in the vent and none of the important information is blocked from your view.

Well, maybe if I do another install... My coworker is picking up her 335 soon and I may install it in her car. If that's the case then I can do a quick DIY.
Honestly it's really simple. Remove the trim, then pull the center vents out of the trim (snap clips). Once you have the vents by themselves, you can remove the vertical slats - they just snap into the vent housing. Stick the concealed display onto the top of the vent housing with double sided adhesive, and you're done. The wire is easy to feed up to that area as well, there's actually quite a bit of space to work behind the dash.

Yeah. I actually made a mute switch (you can also find it on sale on eBay from a member called agravic), and it's mini push button / momentary switch that I have mounted at the base of my shifter... It sticks out of the shift boot, and I can mute my V1 using that.

Yep. You can make your own, but trust me, it'll be hardly any cheaper, and unless you're real good at soldering, won't look as good either. Agravic is a good guy, knew him from my times on audizine and would say that people should buy from him.

Recommend an installer in Peninsula/Bay Area?
I'm not mechanically inclined but am very much interested in getting a V-1 hardwired (just got a speeding ticket on 3/8 going 83/65 right after completing traffic school for going 45/35 the previous night *sigh).
Can anyone recommend a great installer near San Mateo county that can hardwire a V-1 in a 2008 335i? Much obliged. BTW, I love this board. I've learned so much from everyone here. |
