Of their "Invisible Touch" album (1986) I listened most to "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" back in the 80s, with the pumping breakdown starting at 03:15 (listen here).

I like sequencers chugging steadily. Good 80s example: start the epic part from 06:36 onwards:

Nothing's wrong with your speakers or ears. It's deliberate what's happening. I once read that jazz legend Miles Davis sometimes blasted this brief version through concert speakers as gimmick before entering on stage in the late 80s (final years of his life).
