But wouldn't it still handle a bit of drone and bass/boomy-ness? That's what I'm really after. The volume is great.

The resonate frequencies, yes - so rasp, and drone it could help. In terms of the Boomy/bassy notes, I'm not sure. I bought the same resonator for my exhaust build - it's a muffler resonator combo, but it's not a true replacement for a muffler.

AA muffler is on. It was pretty loud on the first cold start and I was a little nervous, but then after 1 min it settled down and sounded like stock at idle. I couldn’t believe how much it settles down! After driving maybe 15 miles I like this exhaust... a lot
It’s pretty aggressive on WOT thanks to the headers and cat delete but there is absolutely ZERO drone. Very happy about no drone! And at High Revs, it’s very aggressive. I’m enjoying it so far it’s mostly refined sounding probably cause I6 and not 4 banger. On downshifts there’s a little bark which reminds me of the turbo M3 and M4 bark. I like that lol The only negative is there’s a light rasp as revs pass through 2000-2500 but I had that with the stock muffler on my set up also. |

Haha definitely no longer sleeper status.
IMO it sounds a little nasaly? But that might just be due to the recording device? Overall sounds good though, man. Definitely racey! |

At full throttle it’s loud, that video can’t convey the full experience and depth to the sound.... but I’ve also never heard a better sound from an engine that wasn’t a V8 or more cylinders. As far as 6 cylinders go it sounds as good in person as any Porsche or BMW 6 cylinder I’ve heard. The fact there’s absolutely zero drone is what I love most about it. That was my biggest fear. Overall I’m really happy. My buddy said it sounds very “M” ish although it’s loud at High Revs WOT I like that I can control the volume with my right foot. With soft shifting and keeping the revs down it wouldn’t get any attention. |

Nice dude I'm glad you're enjoying it! I think the small amount of rasp you have from having no cats helps give it that "M" sound, IMO at least. Personally I love just a little bit of rasp from the right motor.

It's a bit loud and raspy for my liking, but I gotta say it's fun. It's easy enough to daily too - just stay off the throttle. Little nasaly too, but the video makes it sound worse than it is. AA headers & muffler delete.

Here’s some videos of how my exhaust came out. I want to make one thing clear, this exhaust is a beast at WOT... but it can be mellow if you want it to be.
For those who haven’t or don’t want to read the whole thread, this is: AA Headers SS Section 1 (Secondary Cat Delete) Stock Resonator AA Gen 2 Muffler Cold Start: Listen to how it settles down near the end of the video (60 seconds from the start). Once it settles after the first minute you really wouldn’t know it’s modified at all... Mellow Driving w/Windows Up: When you are not on the throttle (ie have cruise control set) it’s pretty much silent... Revs from outside: 2 Revs to 3000, 2 Revs to 5000, and 2 Revs to 7500. It’s loud at 7500. Very loud. Winding it up from inside the car windows down: I love it! Last edited by Biginboca; 04-28-2018 at 03:43 PM.. |

Sounds great fo sho - good job dude!
I'm happy to see that "containing" the rasp and noise level of these motors is still possible even with no cats! Makes me wonder if the stock resonator does more than people think. I'm also thinking that the AA muffler is quieter than the PE muffler. Curious, did you take any recordings with the mic "downstream" from the exhaust? In other words behind the car and mic pointed into the exhaust tips. Your cold start sounds quieter than mine and I only have PE lol! |

Oh no need man, but if you feel like getting some more "data" then I certainly wont complain! If only there was a "forum standard" for exhaust sound clips lol. Actually I just picked up an external mic that I'm going to test with my iPhone (camera in the phone is more than fine for this sort of thing but the mics are severely lacking IMO). I've been trying to get some decent sound clips of my PE for a few weeks now but the hand-me-down DSLR I planned to use has been acting up on me. It is a directional mic and I'm hoping it picks up fairly "real" sound, at least compared to the built-in mics that phones and cameras have. I'm not THAT into videography so I didn't want to splurge in the $200 price range; hopefully this little guy will do the trick though. I plan on recording from behind the car with the mic aimed towards the muffler, probably about 6 ft. away or so.
