My macbook just died on me Saturday. Thank god I have warranty so have to bring it to apple this week. I've told patryk to hold on shipping me the OPS unit. Figure a few weeks until I can update.

Managed to upload a bunch of songs from a USB stick to the internal hard drive, it shows as 12.5GB free for Mp3's which is great!
BT audio streaming works great (but it disables itself if I use the white apple cord).
Album artwork only shows when the white cord from apple is used.
Streaming from soundcloud is AWESOME quality and displays the album artwork also.

I've taken the time to open the black connector in the arm rest for the snap-in. I notice that the car only has 4-5 wires (I'll add the photo later), but the snap-in has about double the amount of wires. I've pinned brown to brown and red to red which both are the thicker wires together, and still no power observed when the iphone is snapped in (no charging indicator or sound)

hey jezzy, any chance you can do a video of the cic screen going through the connected drive menu/bmw services? upload it to youtube?

only reason why I ask is if you have bmw apps appear on the cic , Im sure you don't need a software update....im reading conflicting posts regarding the snapin charging, that the combox doesn't have a 12v feed back to the snap in where as the tcu does. im only trying to save you some cash here....

its been a while as ive been away and forgot where we were lol....

Morning!

I don't have connected drive on my cic. When I plug my iPhone with white cable and run the app on the phone, it fails to connect. So sadly there is no apps options etc.. Either I need to code connected drive into my cic which I believe I tried.. Or a cic firmware is required.
Welcome back!
I couldn't be surprised that I need to runs a switched 12v to my combox?

morning to you aswell my friend.....

so you have no bmw apps option under bmw services? if that's the case then its a software update for the cic im afraid...

for apps all you need in the VO is 6NR 6NF which I think you already have...

bmw apps will only work with the blue usb cable from the combox.

it will not work via the 6fl usb.

Btw I'm using an emulator for
Navi, if I update my cic firmware. Will my current 2009 navi version still work with my emulator?
2nd, once I update my navi software to 2015.. I need a fsc code, does that mean it renders my emulator useless? Or does my emulator still work and no fsc code is required? Thanks!

hey jezzy.....not sure after the cic software update...but I would assume your maps should still be intact...

to update the maps you will need a fsc code for the vin of the cic...not the vin of your car.

if your cic gets updated to the latest version, you will require a fsc code for bmw apps. (ask patryk about this as you don't want to be spending again for bmw apps, he will know which software version is needed before bmw apps required a fsc code)

the emulator you will always need as this is the brains which fools the car to think the cic is installed in its original vehicle.

see it as a 3 way handshake....

the fsc code for voice/navigation/maps must be for the same vin number in the cic.

the cic must then have the same vin number as the cas(I think its the cas) this is where the emulator fools the cas and cic to think its using the correct vin.

if one fsc code is wrong or missing then the chain is broke and you lose that function until its rectified.

Perfect thanks! Can't wait to get my apps up. I am loving the cic update. Having the idrive cic controller with the shortcuts was worth the investment!

I've tried adding the combox options to my cic trc file but didn't work ops unit on its way. Perhaps in hand by end of week. Looking forward to it. Also going to get some wiring to build my fbas wires too. But.. Since there's no power to my snap in.. Still. I read on e60 forums talk of pin 3 snap in power from tcu wiring and wasn't required in the combox connector. Hmm!

Jezzy,

You can update the firmware on the CIC as long as you don't re-write the VIN in the CIC with your vehicles VIN. Doing so will render the CIC retrofit adapter unless and you'll need a professional retrofitter like BimmerRetrofit or Bimmer-Tech to fix it.

Also updating the CIC past V42 will make the CIC require an FSC code to enable BMW Apps.

If you want to have the latest software and still keep BMW Apps, my suggestion is to get an FSC repair pack from a vehicle which has all of the options you want (BMW Apps, etc) and have it loaded into the CIC (again, you'll need a professional retrofitter to do this coding since the knowledge for this isn't widely known) and then you can update to any firmware you want on the CIC and still keep BMW Apps, etc.

Terminator : thanks, I'll take a look. I tried a new Sirius antenna, still no go. When I select Sirius Radio on my head unit, the FM radio keeps playing over the speakers. It's like it doesn't switch over to the Sirius unit. $655 is added. I see Sirius, but no ESN number or the Sirius dog in the corner trying to get a signal.

I have a feeling it's because I haven't done a CODE CAR at all.. perhaps power signal isn't getting to my snap in (also dead) and my Sirius tuner?

I tried coding car, but it fails at the NFRM.. it seems like it's looking for a FRM2 since my date code is 0911, but I've got a FRM1 so I can't seem to do a "code car"..?

Dracon :Thanks! I have Patryk and Men helping me out from bimmer-tech, so I think I'll be in good hands. I got my battery charger next to me, just waiting for the OPS unit to arrive (early next week). I now know that the emulator skips the VIN check in the head unit for my NAVI and VC.. learning!

I am hoping we'll stick to V42 or less so I can avoid another expense.
I've got my 2014 maps on dvd.. I figure buying a FSC code for 50$ will be worth it. Although.. I do have that FSC NAVI generator that I'll need to dig into a bit more. =)

jezzy if you have or can get a multimeter, check the voltage on the connector for the Sirius tuner. you should be getting 12 volts with cic unit on.

also check your most connection at the Sirius tuner. do you get the red light on one of the connections?

no need to code entire car either as you can run into problems......and yes your correct reference the nfrm, because of the date change it expects to see the frm2 or 3 module which our year cars do not have. that's why you cant change the date and VO in the frm module.

terminator, I checked the voltage with my 0 skills with a multimeter (boy I need to learn that stupid thing!) didn't see results of 12v.. only around 3. But, perhaps I had it on the wrong setting .. very likely.

Yes, red on the most connector going to the unit..

Good to know I don't need to do a "code car" I'm just thinking it's a possibility since I have no power to my snap in and Sirius, both units that I added..! I'm going to find time and source a 12v from a cigarette lighter and run it to the Sirius tuner and see if I can get power to it..

An update,

Today Men from http://www.bimmer-tech.net/shop/ updated my CIC firmware. He has successfully added connecteded drive to my CIC! Thanks Patryk and Men for the excellent service! Men even added in a little extra bonus for the job, thanks!

They shipped me an OPS unit, he used TeamViewer to do all the coding and CIC updating remotely (from Poland mind you!)

Men's a patient guy.. I even had to re-install my XP virtual machine due to several little issues with my XP installation.. 30mins later after I re-installed, we were both up and running and the install went super smoothly. From start to end (without my IT issues), it's about a 2hour job, with my IT issues, it ended up taking almost 3.5 hours (network adaptors, etc..) he did it !

A big thanks!

Now.. to attack my damn snap-in power issues.. I think I'll give up on the Sirius. I hear nothing but bad things about the quality.. just that streaming web based music on my phone is eating up my data! Thank god I've got a 6GB plan.
