APR Tune MSS Springs & sway bars will dial out all understeer and prevent front brake dive. Stock magnetic shocks are top notch and perform just as good as a coil-over system Extreme performance tires You are good to go. The only weak point in the car is the clutch if you do a lot of high rev. clutch dumps. Yes, it losses a little up top near redline (less so though with the APR tune), but if you get in the habit of short shifting by about 800 RPM, it is a rocket and all the power is usable. Because of the amazing magnetic shocks on the car it feels very sporty and like a proper sports car should, very buttoned down and it never feels unsettled or under damped. It has a "special" feel to it. It is pretty light as well and very tossable. It is a car that gets better and feels more special the more you drive it. They call it the baby R8 for a reason. I will also add that when I needed a true 4 seater and was shopping for a replacement for the TTRS, I test drove an 15' M4 and after getting back into my TTRS (not stock, see signature) from the M4, I didn't feel I was leaving anything on the table performance wise. I ended up getting the S4 to replace it and as you can see below, that didn't last long and I ended up in the M3 afterall, but anyways you get my point.

So what kind of performance does the tuned TTRS put down? Not just compared with the M4 but with the C7 Z51 or 997 turbo? I haven't driven a TTRS. I've only been in a TTS and it was really blah. I think they're two totally different animals, right? |

With a stage 2 you can get closer to 450hp. The beauty of it is that because of the AWD, its all usable power (even in 1st gear). I have caught a few sport bikes off guard with it although abusing the clutch a little. Also since its AWD, the nannies don't kill the fun. It is quicker than my M3 off the line by a good margin because of this. The M3 would catch up and pass it higher up near triple digit speeds though And like a said before, in the corners it's so planted and stable because of the magnetic shocks. You just can't upset the chassis in this car, so much more stable feeling than the M3. It is an easy car to drive fast and to its limits.

Mk3 TT RS is expected to come to the US again in 2017-18 and this time around it might be DSG in the states too. May be that might fit the bill? |

Like I said before though, stock it's a little underwhelming, but it doesn't take much to get it to Rockstar status. After having my M3 for about 4 mths now, there are times I wish I still had the TTRS. There are things it does way better than the M. Don't get me wrong, the M has its good points too, especially on a windy mountain road, but on a day to day basis , the TTRS was much more enjoyable and special feeling.

Can you explain a bit more? I always think about getting an M4/Cayman S after the TT RS and I'm always curious to know what previous owners think.

way better traction (obviously, AWD) Much better damping/suspension Way more planted/stable feel More tossable The M3 beats it in... Upper RPM pull (less drop-off near red-line) More front end grip A little higher limits (lateral Gs) Less turbo lag Better cooling (ZERO heat soak) A DCT tranny that always keeps the turbo's spooled in-between shifts A true 4 seater A better balanced chassis (although that narrows a lot with a couple of cheap mods on the TTRS) IMO, the M3 feels like a regular sedan with some go fast parts added to make it more sporty. The TTRS feels like a dedicated sports car and just has that "special feel" to it. This is just feel though, not limits, as when pushed hard the M3 is the more capable of the two The TTRS is a car that is easy to drive fast and does so in a controlled / buttoned down way. As opposed to the M3 , which feels under dampened, and squirrelly with traction issues and an overly intrusive stability/traction control system.

What about a used V8 Vantage? They've become stupid affordable, phenomenal V8 rumble (without the Corvette midlife crisis or Porsche delta bravo image), and classy as anything on the road. A sub 25k mile '06-'08 V8V can be had for between $42-60k. One good example :

But it's not! Doug DeMuro's one off bad experience was an outlier. I've secretly been obsessing about buying a V8 Vantage for a while and have read through the AM V8V forums quite extensively. It's generally recommended by current V8V owners to plan on $1,800ish/yr for maintenance if you have a trusted Indy mechanic (That's BMW maintenance territory!). Part of the reason its not on a Ferrari's maintenance budget is that it's a pretty simple front engine V8, RWD car, made up of a mix of parts from Jaguar, Volvo and Ford...
And that's kind of the charm about an AM, it's kind of like a reuben sandwich made up of ingredients- which left on their own, are less than desirable (corned beef, rye bread, thousand island). But when you put them together, THEY JUST WORK. And it makes the Vantage one hell of a car. More on AM V8V ownership: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/a...questions.html It's the V12, but you get the point And just some more Aston V8V car pron... |
