Bostonian - Thanks for the settings...I have to admit, when I saw them, I thought "huh?" That EQ curve is all over the place compared to what I've always thought sounded good as were the Bass/Treble settings. I'm no audiophile, but I have to say, for my E90, your settings are head and shoulders over what I had.
I agree with you though, compared to Lexus ML and Infiniti Bose (never thought I'd say this), Logic 7 is nowhere near as well tuned as those systems and is severely lacking in deep lows. Thanks again! Last edited by VDPHB; 01-28-2008 at 03:34 AM.. |

Yeah, the problem with the "corrected" curve being all over the place is that the baseline curve is all over the place, and there's only so much you can do with the equalizer. Hopefully, the next version of Logic7 will be tuned for the car interior.

Interesting note:
My car is in the shop for a small repair and they gave me a loaner. The difference between my car and my loaner is that the loaner does not have iDrive. This is significant to this thread because cars with L7 (non-idrive) have settings like "music" and "cinema", whereas cars WITH iDrive have settings like "Concert Hall" and "Theater" (no music setting). I think this may be the critical difference in the successful application of the recommended settings in this thread (which seem to generally be from people with no iDrive). I'm going to try the settings recommended by Bostonian in this non-iDrive loaner. If the sound is *excellent* (as I suspect it will be), I'll be ready to declare that the iDrive crew will need wholly different settings in order to achieve the best out of their systems. I can tell you right now that there's a gigantic difference between "music" / "cinema" and "concert hall" / "theater". Why all L7 cars don't have the exact same surround-sound options is beyond me right now. Off to play in the loaner. Will report back my findings. Cheers.

some of the settings sounded really good in this loaner.
there is a bit of a difference between iDrive-based settings and non-iDrive based settings.

Well, after living with the car for a day or so, these are my findings:
- Sounds worse with the radio (but who listens to radio right?) - Sounds better with the Ipod or CD - Definitely needs to be tuned differently for the E92 acoustics. - Somebody in the Boston area better bring his/her E92 to Bostonian I thank you for all your contributions and hope to "hear" from you soon hahaha!!!!

Damn. Should have pushed my wife harder for the E92 rather than the E90. I'll see on the New England forum if anyone wants to bring an E92 by my place.
As for the issue of non-iDrive vs. iDrive, you all are right on. Those settings, "cinema", "concert hall", etc. are playing with reverb as well as frequency correction, so it's definitely an apples to oranges comparison. I've always found them to be way too artificial for normal use. Plus the bin for the iDrive might make a major difference in acoustics within the car.

The iDrive/non-iDrive issue is really interesting. I wonder what BMW's reasoning for this is (or Lexicon's)....weird....but this is extremely educational.

You're right....I was referring to the new G35's "Bose Studio on Wheels" system. Gracenote is a database for tagging names, artists, and albums of music. The new G35's system is better than our Logic 7 systems and Lexus' ML is better than both IMHO. Besides their capabilities, they sound relatively good out of the box.

I tried the settings that Bostonian posted. Must have been the different LOGIC7 DSP that I have, because it sounded horrible. I just have "Theater" and "Concert Hall". Is it the I-drive that I have?
I wonder if any PROGMAN in the future can add or alter the DSPs.... I don't see why not! |

Yup. It was not far off but very flat/muffled 5000 & 10000 and this part did sound not so good at all. To much base was cut off with 200 but it made it lot cleaner taking it down. I could never get the base right before but this part I'm happy with now.
He is certainly on the right track as far as I'm concern. Orb |

So I fiddled with this and did a bit of a go between of Orbs and Bostonians. I listen to literally ALL types of music so these settings sounded best in my E92. I thought the vocals needed bit of a boost in the lower end and this seemed to give the music more imagery.
