Cobb (Gary), one question for you. My car is still CPO'ed so I will likely avoid upgrading the parts to run stage 2. I went to your site and checked for the requirements on stage 2 (just to get a clear understanding of what is required) and found that you "suggest" upgrades on the intake and catback, but it's not "required" like the stage 2+fmic maps.

Can you shed a little light on what you consider a "suggestion" versus a "requirement"?

Here is the ECU page I am referring to: http://cobbtuning.com/info/?id=5894

On the first page on this post, you are saying high flow downpipes are required, and the catback and intake is suggested (which contradicts the catback requirement (and suggested intake and DP's on your page) so I'm just wanting to get clarification on the requirements.

Thanks!

So the throttle response you guys offer is sort of like the "M" mode on M cars? I don't know how throttle response can be designated in 3 different categories... Isn't that just a little overkill?

The stage 2 tunes are all configured as linear throttle... the difference between drive/sport/aggressive is tuning, specifically, tuning based on octane.

So they have a tune for 89,91, and 93? What is the difference between that and the various stages?

Aren't you running GIAC stage II?
Are you just being a troll?
You should know very well that these choices are comparable to the many buttons on the GIAC Flashloader.

xclone,

Looks like I made an error in the maps download pages. All STage2 maps currently say Any for downpipe, but they should all say Required Upgrade. ***Edit - I've fixed the maps pages. Let me know if that resolves the contradiction you are talking about. ***

The difference between Suggested Upgrade and Required Upgrade is as follows:
Suggested Upgrade: Upgrading this component will yield maximum power gains. Not upgrading this part may reduce power gains, but will not cause improper running conditions.
Required Upgrade: Upgrading this component is required to use this map. Not upgrading this component could lead to improper running conditions while using this map.

Thanks,

Gary

Mflow5,

Yes, it's kind of like that. We alter requested load vs. pedal position in different throttle maps.

Yes, we are thinking that four different throttle profiles are probably overkill. "Linear" is a new profile we just came out with last week in a firmware release. Alternate v1 and Alternate v2 profiles were our first attempts at different throttle profiles and have been around awhile. But rather than tear the older ones down right away and replace them with a new one, we decided to let them all co-exist for awhile so the community could continue to play with them and use the one that fit their particular needs.

As we continue to get feedback and refine the throttle profiles, we do expect that we will be able to remove some of the options as we don't think they will be necessary in the long run.

Ultimately, our customers will tell us which ones we need to keep.

Thanks,

Gary

Mflow5,

The Stages equate to the modifications you've made to your car. The different octane maps maximize the performance for the fuel you are using for the Stage of modification. Higher octane allows us to safely tune for more power for a given set of modifications.

Thanks!

There's so much bitching and whining from grown ass men. It's a stage two BETA for crying out loud. Read what the requirements are, and if you don't have x, then don't run the map that requires x. Any other complaints should be PMed or e-mailed to COBB.

Hey

60 and 50 degree temps should be real nice for those dyno's coming soon! That stage 2+ dyno on the first page was in 91 degree weather! So hopefully even more power on tap!

Looks great. More options for the N54 is always a good thing.

You won't get codes for DP's. I've been running it for near 1000 miles now and they have eliminated the catless codes.

Soooo

Finally got to have a little fun with stage 2 on my way into work, I am FBO 135i.

I installed the aggressive linear + FMIC...
It was 77F this morning

Best way to explain the feeling is like the 3.01 stage 1 stock right when you get that sudden initial boost, but...

all the way through the power band!

I was like

and I haven't even gotten to stretch it out yet.

Cobb,
Can't we have a stage 2+ for stock airbox and filter. I mean we shouldn't have to compromise the filtration just for a map.

Dude, you can run any stage you want. Noone is stopping you. Just don't expect your car to run correctly.

Stock intake -> run Stage 1. Plain and simple.
Want stage 2 or higher -> upgrade intake.
