Anyone here who had to connect the Avin unit to the Aux able to test their audio quality and report back if this works with bass. Mine worked without having to connect to Aux but it lacks bass and the sound quality, in general, is bad so I've just been out and tested an iPhone connected to the BMW Aux port and the sound is fine making me conclude the issue is either with how its connected to the Aux or it has to be the Headunit. Maybe if its the way it's connecting I can try plug in the audio Aux out to my BMW Aux in and resolve the sound issues.

Anyone who had to fix the Aux issue also able to post any pictures on how they connected it up?

Also not working. Any assistance would be appreciated. Apple CarPlay works well though other than the no sound thing. BMW side is fine so it's not the optical cable I don't think.
I had the same issue, did you run the aux to the armrest?

The iPhone is the only audio source I use, I don’t use any android audio sources. One thing I’ve noticed is that when I start the car, the Bluetooth will pair and start playing pretty quickly. Once the Avin comes up and as soon as CarPlay makes a connection, audio will go quiet even though I can still see audio progressing. I have to use the audio butting near the idrive controller to switch to fm radio and then back to BT audio and it plays fine. Like several things, this seems like a game of chasing work arounds, but I’m still way happier than just having a 6.5” non nav system.

Make sure on your phone you will have two sound output sources lists 'Autobox' and 'BMW XXXXXX' select the BMW one.

Thanks so rules it out being the way its connected so it must be a head unit issue.

Well that application doesnt work

I've played around with the setting and this is best I can get, still not up to the BMW audio but usable.

Strangely with CarPlay the Volume is controlled by the GPS Volume in the picture.

What about the AUX cable that comes with the unit? Does it need an extension to connect it to the AUX in the armrest?

Nope but I've got a splitter for it.

I bought this solely for the bluetooth feature cause i didn't want to have to plug in my phone every time i get into the car. My car is an e90 without the idrive and doesn't have the enhanced bluetooth or i wouldn't have bought it. Im very disappointed honestly. I think the display looks awesome but it fails at its main objective, music. The sound quality with this thing is trash compared to bmw's stock system. I can use my tune2air bluetooth and the audio sounds fine and as soon as i connect to the bluetooth via the avin it gets static and tinny sounding even when still playing through the tune2air bluetooth. Do not buy until they fix the audio quality.

Thanks! I got it sorted following your instructions. The aux was working for me but the sound wasn't great (no bass).

Yes and Yes. Aux isn't bad though for audiobooks (mostly what I listen to during my commute). For music, the BT is so much better though.

Doesn’t the AUX from the AVIN have to be ran to the AUX in the center console?

So I found somewhat of a workaround for us without bt streaming from BMW. It's a pia but it works. Download Spotify on the avin unit, log in, connect the avin unit yo your phones WiFi hotspot (some carriers charge for this), disconnect the aux cable from the center console that goes to the avin and plug another one in from your phone to the aux port. This long process will let you control Spotify from the unit without steering wheel controls working. You will have good music quality and see Spotify on the display. If you just want Bluetooth connectivity for music and don't have the enhanced BMW Bluetooth but do have an iPhone just buy the tune2air.

I think there are three options:

1 - some people aren’t hooking up to aux and are getting sound, not sure on sound quality

2 - most people do have to hook up the 3.5mm aux to the center console but I don’t think anyone is happy with the audio quality for music

3 - run audio through BMW Bluetooth, stock sound quality
