It's really hard to get someone to lose weight if they don't want to. But do activities outside together like bike riding, walking etc and take her to eat at healthier places. Don't keep junk food around the house. Making fat jokes definitely doesn't work.

Eating the proper portions, mixed with a little fat shaming, will go a long way. Make them feel as bad about themselves as humanly possible, until they realize they've been doing themselves a huge disservice.

In short, you need to smell her vagina when you first meet to avoid this as a whole. Just pretend you do it much like a dog sniffs ass to say a friendly "Hello".

Secondly. I'd probably not tell her. I'm sure she has to be aware already and might be insecure about it. Might be something out of her control, but still has to go on living life like any other normal person. Depending if you got into a serious relationship, you could bring it up and just say something like "I don't know if it's just me, but I can smell something a little off, do you smell it too?" Judge her reaction. Then, the next day, buy her a douche, wrap it up real nice, stick some roses with it, and just ride it out.

I actually had that happen once. It was so bad that i told her i had to go to the bathroom.... and left, never to be heard from again. Took DAYS to get that smell off my fingers.
