Now that is cool. Maybe I'll get one after all. I currently use another manufacturer's MP3 player.

I was at AutoWest BMW in Richmond BC last week and they told me $690 for the part - $900 CAD installed. I would like someone else to confirm in Canada as this seems way too high.

Send your dealer the part # and find out if they can order it... as mentioned my rep told me the part is available to order (would take a day or two to arrive) but they do not have the service bulletin so he said the install would have to wait.

Sorry about the delay in getting these non-iDrive shots up...I forgot my video Ipod at work and ending up flashing my Ipod mini to the latest firmware to get these. Enjoy!

Here is the base menu while songs are playing...unlike the cool Idrive folks, we don't get a song title as far as I know...just the standard Track 01, etc...

Here is what happens when you hit LIST using a sort by artist (selection #2). By default it shows the current song in the top slot and the next song on the bottom but I scrolled up to show the directory structure. If you click with the right dial on the minus sign, the directory collapses and you can scroll to the next artist without having to go through each song.

Before you call me an idiot...I downloaded the track listings for these songs from CDDB (or whatever the thing is) and it came mispelled, heh. Anyway, when you scroll over a song, the TITLE option appears and you can go to the song information.

Here is what that menu looks like for track #1.

This is the what it looks like when scrolling from artist to artist after collapsing your current directory.

The interface is pretty good and as stated before, once the playlist gets downloaded, the thing is fast to scroll through. With my Ipod mini, the playlist gets downloaded almost instantaneously but with my Ipod 30GB, it takes a good 20-30 seconds it seems. Good news is you only have to do it once per Ipod session if you stay in sort by artist mode or whatever sorting category you choose.

I have never really missed not having Nav but for once, I think I would almost deal with iDrive just to have a larger display but what can you do?

Great screen shots - a lot of people have been asking for them!

Wow, that's dissappointing. Even the Denison ICE-Link in my E46 does that.

Thanks for posting the shots, though. I really wish this was a factory option. Like others, I just don't know that I want to risk having techs tear my brand new car apart to install this.

Hmm...now I am not so certain it is worth the money nor the headaches of the install.

I was really excited about this accessory, but now I am pretty bummed.

I don't think that the installation represents a headache - at least for you. Most people won't be at the dealership seeing the car in pieces. You'll drop it off and get it back with one great new option.

After several months of using the iPod interface, I am close to swearing off sat radio and radio forever.

NoFriends if you press the list button while you have a song playing you will get another screen. On that screen hit the track button and you will have the song title and album title displayed and it wont just display track 1/2 etc.

Anyone had this done in Boston?

I just got off the phone with the service department at Herb Chambers and was told it would be about $900 installed. this was for 4-6 hours of labor.

the kit was $387 and they won't install parts bought elsewhere.

the thing the struck me the most is that the tech said the wire had to be run all the way into the back to the radio... is this true? it's not how i understood it.

I want one of these... and for under $500 installed i could live w/it but $900 is rediculous.

thank you...

Just picked mine up today from BMW of Towson in Maryland. They wanted to charge me 2.5 hrs but I insisted on the 1.5 hrs stated in the intallation guide. Total was less than 500 bucks for everthing. Its a nice feature.

I too just got mine installed today. The dealer had the car for about 7 hours total, but charged me the quoted price of 1.5 hrs labor. So far it works very well, minus the glaring oversight in the random play feature mentioned before. The other thing that I noticed is that after the PROGMAN update, the homelink fuse/circuit that my V1 is hardwired to no longer is switched off when the fob is removed from the dash...always did before.

That rocks. This was far and away the number one reason I didn't get iDrive. I just couldn't imagine tapping through a legal warning every time I started my car. I might have to try this iDrive thing on my next car. Maybe when the 335i sedan is available...

We have working versions on e60 and e63 all the way back to 01/05 builds so far. I both case the were DIY from a 6CDC with MP3 capability already retrofitted. Neither one went to dealer to code (recode) and worked as soon as their DIY was complete. I guess the physical install is far more complex in the e90? Is the 6CDC in the glovebox ala e60/63?
