Your dealer should know. When I ordered my car they didn't have a clue but by now should've sold a few. About 40 quid if I remember correctly. Well worth it, the integration is awesome..... although I'd have designed it a little differently.

Without I-drive should be fine, don't see why not.

My understading was that is does work, but is obviously not as good, as you don't have the full i-drive screen (which effectively replicates the screen of the ipod). So you will only see about 2 lines of scroll on the std head-unit I guess, instead of multiple lines on the i-drive.

Thanks for the info guys. I did do a search through the forum and all the pictures of this interface show the I-drive, I haven't seen any without.
I want to order the cable to have it ready for when the car eventually arrives. |

Right guys - I have read most of the pages of this thread although did skip a couple when the hoover issue arose, lol I have taken delivery of my E93 c/w 6FL option -when I orderd the car back in Dec 06 it was not on the options list - when I had to fully finalise my order in March it had appeared on the options list as an Ipod interface so I ordered it (I had previosly retro-fitted the aftermarket kit to my missus E46 compact and it worked very well with songs on the radio display etc..) I took deliver of the car in June and it came without the lead - I used my ipod nano with the lead that apple supply to connect the ipod to the PC when updating it and it works fine - it displays all artists albums etc on the head unit and controls them that way (i dont have i drive!!). However, the issue arises when you want to play music you have paid to download - this music is digitally protected when 'installed' onto your ipod as in you cant link it up to your pc and take the music back off the ipod to your computer or copy it from ipod to ipod - the way apple gets round this is by only makin this music accessable to the headphone socket. This means that the usb lead method will not play this music - you need the special lead. The secial lead has both a usb and 3.5mm headphone jack which plugs into BOTH sockets in your armrest. This cable them plugs into the usb jack and headphone jack on your ipod. The head unit still displays the track listing and you can listen to the tunes without reverting to using the AUX faciility on the head unit (which is how older E90 models played their ipods before the 6fl option - all track/artist/album control was made using the ipod) I am in the process of arguing with the dealer as I want the lead FOC - it should be supplied with the option as far as I am concerned - I have paid £200+ and dont think I should have to fork out more money for the lead - the option did not say (ipod 6Fl - required additional cable!) so I am not gonna pay for one - my lease company is fightin my corner - The lead if anyone is interested can be seen in the latest BMW magazine - it is in the article about the 'NEW?' BMW 1 series - they show a pic with the armrest lifted and the dual black cable attached to the ipod. Hope this helps and if I have repeated something that has already been stated dont shout - i just did not want to read about hoovers and dysons lol!! cheers, Paul |

I agree paul. It hacks me off that I have to fork out a further £40 for the iPod cable, particularly when it is free in the US market.

You may be lucky and get the cable free however the interface is an USB/Audio interface. People perhaps refer to it as Ipod, if your dealer did then you have a case but to a degree I can understand the dealer's position. If you buy a PC you don't expect to get an Ipod lead with the USB interface nor should you really when your car comes with a USB interface.
Given that the Ipod is the de-facto standard MP3 player I think they should bundle one in but that's my opinion, I don't think anyone is pulling a fast one.

Just about to buy my first iPod (30Gb Video) to go with the new 335d Just before I buy the requisite accessories to go with it, does anyone know if the BMW 6FL iPod cable also acts as a charger for the iPod?
If the answer is somewhere in the five pages of this thread I must have missed it |

Mine was the first car my dealer had I believe with this option and when I ordered (March this year) it was definitely listed as USB/Audio option. Do you have any BMW literature with Ipod listed? I haven't seen any.

Only literatutre I have seen is for the North American market, I showed this to dealer and they supplied cable free of charge no problem but I was one of the first at the dealers to have delivery with this option and they were clued up.
