Hello, Admins...Terry is doing it again...ha ha.
I think the market is really shaking out. Guys who want bang for the buck can come to me, guys who want the most power can go to Vishnu, and guys who want worry-free gains can go to Dinan.

For those who lease and like to mod their cars, its a no brainer...Piggybacks take off at the end of lease...sell the piggyback to forums like this, some of the expense being paid back....The other route LOSE everything!!! Zero DINEROS

That sounds about right, but I still think the piggybacks like the PROcede, XEDE, and JB2 have their advantages over the ECU Flash...for now anyway. In addition, I still see Dinan fading away with less and less marketshare (based on the current and future options), unless they become more aggressive and more progressive in today's dynamic market.

$2000??? 5% of the value of the car in the US??

I leased my 335xi for 3 years, 35 months to go....and at the end, I walk out with nothing. Proceed, JBR2, SSTT, I can sell this at the end.

Keep your SW Dinan!

Excellent post. To me, spending $2300ish for 45whp defeats the entire purpose of buying a car with factory turbochargers. Warranty or no warranty. It's not as if Terry's product or Shiv's product isn't reliable. But when life hands you lemons, make lemonade, not water with lemon.

I've said it many times, and I sell a piggyback system, I'd give my left kidney to be able to offer a flash tune. You can do so much more with fully integrated software. Easy install, easy removal. The JB2 is an awesome tune for guys especially for the price, but flash is where its at.

And, this comes from a guy who also drives a "Dinan" M6, worth what...$100k?

A huge difference between buying dinan parts for an NA car where dinan's parts are on-par performance wise at a slightly higher cost vs. buying dinan parts for a TT car where dinan's parts are below-average at a significantly higher cost. I can understand one, I have a hard time with the other.

To the warranty lovers and "soft-cores," I completely understand where you're coming from... but you'll never convince the rest of us.

Ahhh, not in this thread. There are 50000 threads on the whole M3 vs. modded 335i debate. I'll just say that DA coilovers, GS-D3s, UUC sways, a Spearco intercooler, quad exhaust and a V2 for $8 grand, I firmly believe i'll be giving M3s that cost $10k-$15k+ all they can handle at the track.

Thumbs down

As one or two other users brought up, Dinan's lack of post-50k coverage is EXTREMELY important.
"Warranty: Only offer warranty that matches New Car Limited Warranty (NO Extended Warranty coverage)"

That BLOWS. So after 50k it would be better to have gone the non-dinan route, since then bmw won't have grounds to deny coverage (assuming you remove your chip whenever you go in for service...). With Dinan they will know you have dinan and use that as grounds for coverage denial. Anything from exhaust/turbos/engine failure/o2 sensors/cooling system/clutch/transmission/rear subframe/etc could possibly be denied due to the 30-40% or so increase in torque.

I had my extended warranty on an e39 M5 voided (wasn't a BMW warranty, but was bought through my local dealership that was Dinan authorized and sold me/installed my Dinan mod) because I had a Dinan CAI on my car. It added maybe 5hp, and they claimed the rear subframe failure on my car was due to the Dinan product. $6000 bill dropped in my lap.

I just think the lack of post 50k coverage is nuts. Especially for $2000...the same software for an e39 M5 was $500. That is some serious inflation for a product that offers less protection (and who cares about the large gains--every chip tuner has them with this car).

I think he makes a good point. If you're going to spend $1500+ on someting you can't get right now (V2), what's $1999 AND a warranty, AND top speed removal?

Simple.. all the piggy backs seem to be evolving. Think about when Terry first launched the JB and when the Procede was a Xede, you buy one of those products and you'll always be able to evolve into whats the fastest. You buy a $2000+$150tax+$150install= $2300 reflash and you're stuck at the baseline performance numbers for either shiv's product (at or around 1.47) or terry's JB. Meanwhile, when V2s start being shipped in mass quantities and more people jump on terry's JB2/JB2R bandwagon, you'll be stuck with a car thats slower than the average modded N54 and a nice fat bill to boot.

Granted, maybe issues will start showing up where the chippers will start showing problems that require work that won't be covered by warranty. But really, most cars can handle a lot of abuse for 40-50k miles.
