Ok ED experts. Can I get some counseling?? I've been looking at the ED program vs. the Military sales program and looks like ED might have it beat. I am currently working in Kuwait and am wondering if ED woudl work for me. If I can find a dealer in the US near my hometown willing to work with me on ED, then would it be OK if when the day comes to take delivery in Munich, I fly from Kuwait to Germany, take delivery, return the car, then go back to work in Kuwait and when the times comes for the car to be delivered to the states, I can have someone else pick it up from the dealer? The problem is I'm not sure if I'll be in the US by the time it gets back from Germany. I'll try to time it right but you never know. And as far as pricing. I got this number from the calculator in the ED forum (not sure if these prices are post sept prices) so please tell me if I'm in the right ballpark.
330i/ZPP/ZSP/NAV/PDC/Sirius $38,355 + Taxes (this includes a 1500 profit to dealer, so I guess 1500 over ED invoice?) Let me know if my methods and numbers all work out. I really appreciate your help.

european delivery driving damage repair
I have a troubling situation and I am hoping the people of this forum can help.
Here's the specific: BMW e90 325i via European Delivery While in Europe the back rear bumper and front underbody spoiler were slightly damaged, they are minor scratches. This occurred before handing the car over to the E.H. Harms agent. The agent handed me a document ( the white shipping paper ), indicating where the damage is located on the car. The Harms agent and the individual that I worked with at the Munich delivery center said that any damage during the trip would be fixed by BMW. I also see on the 14 day insurance policy given to me at the delivery center that there is no deductible, and covers up to 40K worth of damage. So the car finally arrived at BMW Stevens Creek yesterday, and to my dismay none of the damage was fixed. The dealer said they are not responsible for normal wear and tear and the Harms agent had no business saying that the car would be fixed. However, he did say he would try and file a claim. I am assuming he is going to file a claim with BMW NA, who will then forward this to the European insurance company. The dealer also did say nothing is guaranteed, but if approved he would have no problem fixing the car. The dealer wants me to take the car of the lot, but should I refuse to take the car. I feel the damage would be fixed in a more timely fashion if they see the car lying there on the lot. Any suggestion? Please? |

For those of you who wonder why ED is cheaper. There are two factors at play:
1. ED builds brand loyalty 2. ED cars do not come with the CSI money which can be up to 5% of the MSRP. This is paid by BMW to the dealers as long as they meet certain objectives. It is not the traditional holdback but an incentive based on the dealer's customer satisfaction index, the quality of the dealership etc. This is the reason most dealers request a perfect 5 evaluation in the survey. |

There is a third party insurance company which insures ED cars. Typically these things are fixed at the VDC. However that delays the car. So you are lucky that the car was not held up at the VDC. Let SCBMW fix the car for you. You should be able to file an insurance claim or SCBMW will be able to do it for you. Not something to worry about; this is standard practise.

Thinking to get ED on 330i next year and have few questions.
1. As a person who has a Acura MDX with NAVI I'd love to get NAVI on my 330i but I read negative comments about BMW NAVI from "Car & Driver" magazine. Acura MDX is excellent helper - das BMW NAVI is worse $2000. For ED - do I have to buy European DVD? Do I keep DVD after all (I’m one who paid for) 2. Is car drive differently with Sport package? Is it worse $1,500? 3. How long usually waiting period in US (I read on another side where poor guy wait 9 weeks already and car is not there yet) 4. Another story on internet that one woman fly to Munich and car was not build yet. This will be my first BMW and my first ED. Just came here for help. |

1. You can rent a European navi DVD from the ED moderator on bimmerfest.com. A bunch of members have rented the DVD from him. 2. SP you need to test-drive it yourself, but a car with SP looks a lot nice than one without. 3. 9 weeks is atypical. Usually about 8 weeks (for West Coast) after you drop it off at one of the specified cities. 4. Car not being built is really unusual. Because you have to pay for the car in advance, so your dealer will know the status of your car. Also you can track it on bmwusa.com or by calling the 800 #.

Try to ask this question on bimmerfest.com "Ask a Dealer" section.

After searching through this website and other forums, I've decided to do ED for my first BMW purchase. I'm interested in taking delivery of a 3 series at the end of March. Problem is that I've contacted multiple dealerships in MI, OH, and IN about ED pricing and none of them so far are willing to negotiate up from the ED invoice price. They are all quoting MSRP minus like $500. Is there such a demand for the e90 now that the days of $1500 above ED invoice are gone? If anyone knows any CAs or dealerships in MI, IN, OH, or IL that are still willing to negotiate up from the ED invoice price, please let me know. I don't mind traveling to pickup my car once it has arrived here in the states.

I am thinking about doing ED as well, who wouldnt after reading all the great posts with so much money being saved. However after consulting a couple dealers here in PA I am finding the savings isnt that great. It might be if you compare it to MSRP, but honestly, who goes and buys a car for MSRP. The biggest savings I seem to be getting is at most 2 grand (when compared NOT to MSRP, but to a US deal my dealer I bought from b4 is giving me.)
So with the cost of two people flying, and staying there, ED isnt cheaper anymore. Any recommendations? |

However, you can save money if you're using frequent flier miles and finding good lodging deals.

I did all the math on ED and in the end decided the savings were not that great.
325xi - $30030 cold weather - $775 sport - $1090 paint - $430 desitnation - $695 MACO - $350 (WITH ED NEVER PAY MACO !!!) profit - $900 ------------------- TOTAL - $34,270 versus IF THIS WERE ED, My negotiated all inclusive price was $31,750. A real savings of $2520 over the USA negotiated price. But here are the catches with ED ..... * you need to pay in full 30 days before your production start date * production at the factory will take aprox 30 days * no outside credit union will finance your car, only bmw finance will loan you money for a european car * bmw finance rates are much higher than credit unions * your financing begins immediately (~2 lost months of payments depending on your payment schedule) * if you have a trade in, it needs to be traded when you pay, leaving you no car and little room to negotiate on trade value * once you are all done in munich, your bmw can take as much as 30 days to go through queue and go over the water back to usa * if you traded in, you'll need a loaner or rental car while you wait for the new bmw I couldn't wait so long for all the above. Also, after airline & hotel costs, I decided ED was not the best choice for my situation. My suggestion, do ED if you want the AWESOME :rocks: experience of the trip, don't do it if you think you are saving money. My dealer found me an xi already on the water. I went from ordering my xi at a dealership to getting it delivered in about 2.5 weeks! |

First of all you pay 15 days before delivery and not 30 days before production. Add another 6-8 weeks for redlivery and you are looking at 8-10 weeks (or about two months of dead cash).
In Winter you can go to Munich from the East Coast for $500-700. If you do it right, you do not have to stay in a hotel (fly out on Sunday afternoon, fly back Monday evening). Plus with ED you can order the exact car you want and typically get a higher discount than what you would get with a US delivery car. This is because the US delivery car comes from the dealer's allocation and hence they need to make a higher profit on them. |

When I was initially ordering ED, my dealer insisted on 30 days advance payment. Maybe dealers get to choose prepayment schedule and this is a good tip for people here to negotiate (if they need to). |
