Anyone know of a good place in SO CAL
I would like to remove the CDV on my M3 but don't have the proper place to do it. Anyone know of a good shop in the LA area that has experience doing this. Thanks.

If I crimp the line properly, would I still need to do the bleeding process? Some of mentioned doing the mod w/o bleeding and reporting it was fine. ??

Yes, Ive done it 3 times and crimped only two(first one was mine and didnt know about the crimping). None of them were bled and all of them are fine. If you find your pedal to be light, mushy or dropped a little, just pump the brake pedal till the clutch pedal firms up. After that you should have no problems.

Who said it was air in the system contributing to it? It could be from a minimal amount of fluid loss(which in these cases it was) affecting it the same way. Dont be so paranoid. If theres enough pressure built up in the line from pumping the brake pedal, everything is fine. Its not like one day youll be driving along and have no brakes whatsoever. Air works its way out of lines overtime if there is any. Its not like youre dumping the whole reservoir and then filling it back up again.

Haha, yeah at first. Like when you go to start the car up for the first time after you did the swap. Thats when you will notice it. It wont creep up on you all of a sudden somewhere down the road.

Do the European models have CDV or is it only on NA models?
This diagram of a European clutch system shows No. 15 as STOP VALVE. Is it the same as CDV?

I just finally did the CDV swap yesterday! Sorry this thread is over 1 1/2 years old now, but I think it's helped a lot of people, including me. Thanks a lot!
I swapped valves, which was pretty easy. I took my time to make sure I didn't screw anything up. The only thing that I did NOT do was bleed the line using that bleeder valve. I only lost a few drips of fluid because I had a small C-clamp pressed down on that front (soft) tube. When I finished the job and lowered the lift, I just pressed down on the clutch pedal and lifted it back up with my hand. Then I opened the cover of the brake fluid resevoir. Then I pumped the clutch pedal a dozen times or so and then checked the brake fluid level with my new container of DOT 4 brake fluid handy, but didn't add any at all. The fluid was still at or near the maximum level. It seemed that the clutch engagement was a little closer to the floor right after I backed it off the lift, but I think I may have been imagining it. After I drove away is when I noticed the difference. It still drives great, but the clutch operates like a "normal" clutch. I'm able to control my gear changes a lot better and and it's very smooth when going slow. When I accelerate fast the gears just bite on hard and it feels stronger right at the point that the gear is engaged. I have to be carefull not to spin the tires too much on that shift to 2nd gear though... like I did today. I only had the DTC on (hit the DSC button for a split second) and the tires spun going through a corner while accelerating hard. I'm sure if I shut the whole DSC/DTC off, I might have gone a little too sideways. I'm too concious of the price of these tires to be doing burn out's though. Bottom line is that I'm glad I did this CDV swap. These cars should come like this anyway. It's too bad I had to do this myself and not have the dealer do it... for free even. Thanks everyone.

I've put 21k miles on my 330xi manual trans. I have no trouble driving slow and smooth, but when I try to drive fast it's harder to drive smoothly. Is that from the CDV? I've noticed the clutch seems to engage a lot slower when I'm driving fast causing the jerky shifts.
Drove a friend's Porsche 4s. I was able to drive fast w/o jerky shifts. Does anyone know if Porsches have the CDV? Anyone in the Chicagoland area have done the CDV mod? |

I wondered if I could get some help. I am thinking abou picking up a pressurized/vacuum brake bleeder. We have a harbor freight local and they sell great stuff for unbelievable prices. This pressure/vacuum brake bleeder seems like it will do the job well, but I just wanted to ask if this looks good to you guys.

If you clamp the clutch line before removing the CDV, you should minimize fluid loss.

I need help asap! I changed the CDV. Lost fluid, so I have bleed the clutch using a vacuum bleeder. The vacuum bleeder is pulling fluid from the bleeder screw and filling the catch container, but the clutch pedal will not come off the floor. I can pull the clutch up manually with my hand, but it will not come up on its own. I am bleeding from the valve just above the CDV as shown in the pictures. Any help would be HUGE!

Did you crimp the line like you were told to? Regardless, you need someone to pump the brakes while you bleed the line. This will help get the air out. You cannot do it with one person.

Got it taken care of. I did it one person, just needed to pump the pedal a few more times.
