I did not come from a rich family but made enough money by the time I was 16-17 to pay for all my cars. I have always had at least 2 cars. My fun car and my daily driver. I recommend to any new drivers... get a cheap car for at least 6months-1 year min. Price or not... there is a very high chance you will at least get into a fender bender in the first year of driving if not worse. Driving is part skill and a LARGE part experience. You will need to learn how other people drive/react etc. I know if my first daily driver was a 50K car and I got into a fender bender I would go crazy. Think about that for a while... Im not talking at all about deserveing/how it should be paid for etc.
Your experience is everything... even with you being a smart driver/not racing etc shit happens when your new to driving. Get a crappy car till you are comfortable then buy the nice one. Mat |

heres the question you have to ask yourself, do you want to turn heads, while in comfort and have performance, or do you want to have someone glimpse at your car, while you do have good performance, but you sacrifice the comfort by sitting in racing seats.

one interesting thing, when you were young, you think about the turbos, the speed, the acceleration, 4 wheel drive, Blow off valve (<---stupidest idea with a stock car in STi) and all other hyped up stuffs. When you get older, you start looking into details, a more balanced car with refinement on the inside, classy exterior and a good enough engine. People's taste change according to age, the older you get, the more you will start appreciating the interior. when i was 16, the STi interior is acceptable to me, now when i look back, i am absolutely sure i won't be able to live with that interior~
snosk: think about 5 years down the road which one will keep you happier, that's important too. Btw, there's that one reply which i really like too, he was saying how you would show up in a business meeting/your girlfriend's parents meet up, imagine how you will look in a STi. General public don't appreciate the car as much as we do and they will only think that you've mod the heck out of your car when it is stock~! |

but i'm ordering a 335i very soon.... u can make tons of power on the sti... but if your not into speed or power, get the bimmer for looks.... if your ulgy the bimmer might help... if you got game then u can get chicks w/ a bicycle like i did in college and all the rich buys were really mad!!!!!! haha! |

16 years old? WRX STI definitely then. Even that however is maybe too much car. If its free though, then go for it! You may want to consider a VW GTI though, too.

Also, the 3 series is a 3 series is a 3 series. I really dont see this helping you or anyone else really get chicks (mostly). Sure, its a BMW, but we're still driving the lowest model BMW you can buy here in the states.
Now, you tell a chick you're driving a 650i or M5 (new) or something, yeah, that may get her attention (as any 90k+ car would). To most though, driving a 3-series is no more impressive than driving an Audi A4 or say an Acura TL or something like that. |

ps. Then again maybe you did pay same price for your 335i as some one would for their TL or A4, lucky you!

I am not sure about other people, but 650 just isn't design for people that young, you have to have some age to fit that style and size of the car. in my opinion, any people who are in their 20-25 should only drive M3 max~ any other higher model would be overkilled and would look like you are driving a daddy's car. |
