EU model E91 325i to 330i conversion
I'm doing a conversion from n52b25 to n52b30 and I see that the automatic transmissions have different part numbers but are the same ZF model GA6HP19Z. I wonder what the difference is and if I actually need to replace the transmission.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/en/partxref?q=24007547899 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/en/partxref?q=24007547901 In advance thanks for any qualified answers! EDIT: I found this ZF pdf that shows all the different part numbers. http://www.zf.com/corporate/media/zf...nsmissions.pdf Last edited by Vagsfjord; 06-02-2016 at 04:11 AM.. |

I've put over 30,000 miles on mine since upgrading the power output . I've thought about testing the high output software but never felt the need. |

I will enjoy getting rid of this oil thirsty bastard b25. After my engine ate a swirl flap it sounds not so healty. Right now I'm waiting for a kind of preapproval from the The Norwegian Public Roads Administration to make the conversion legal. The b30 is really the closest you can get a plug and play engine swap. As far as I can tell I actually only need to swap the engine and upgrade the cooling fan from 400W to 600W. If you car was delivered with original towbar/hitch you should already have the 600W fan. The b30 is a light engine and if my information is correct, only 10kg heavier. No need for brake upgrade and that will make the converted 325i lighter than the factory 330i. I found a local tuning company that will remap my msv70 dme. |

Still searching for someone who has undertaken the swap. The engine from a 2008 to 2009 530i or 130i would be the ideal donor.
Is it simply a plug and play with the wiring loom and mechanical attachments? I expect a dme flash is needed. I need to check with the government authorities for approval re increased capacity, and possibly bigger brakes? That could be a deal breaker if required. |

Brakes, Not sure about the E92 but there are a number of threads where people have swapped rotors and carriers from the higher HP cars. Parts can be picked up at a junk yard. It's not a big deal but unless you are tracking the car it's probably not worth the effort. |

Getting closer to pulling the trigger on this swap.
Currently my car has the small block 2.5 litre N52B25; 215hp motor, Australian delivered 2012 325i auto. I have located a suitable donor 3 litre engine from 2009 E89 Z4 with N52B30AF low km 255hp motor, which also had sports auto tranny. It comes with the 3 litre DISA manifold and engine oil heat exchanger, but no exhaust manifold. So is this engine swap really going to be as easy as "plug and play" like I am hoping? Should the car start up and run, reasonably driveable? ..... without throwing any error codes? Is it even possible that the ecu could "learn" to adapt it's tune to adjust for the higher capacity? Alternatively, how would I actually go about obtaining a flash tune to update from the 2.5 litre to the 3.0 litre performance? (Shipping of cpu to USA is not a practical option from Australia). Is the 2.5 litre exhaust on my car going to be restrictive to the 3 litre engine's maximum performance? . Last edited by Twoforty; 06-25-2016 at 07:37 AM.. Reason: additional info added. |

Both engines should have MSV70 ecu. It would surprise me if no companies in Australia could do this programming of ecu. I have several in my city who tunes BMW ecu. A sport air filter and exhaust would give you about 15hp extra. Just make sure that the engine isn't a n53. Check vin to also make sure engine ecu is MSV70.

One more thing, to get official approval and write the new engine into the cars registration they most likely must performe a brake test. You might be forced to get bigger calipers, disks and pads from a 330i. If you have sport suspension there are some limitations to how big you can go.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just ran a check on the VIN numbers. My car and the donor are both controlled by MSV80!. Obviously different from yours, but fortunately match each other. Definitely talking about N52 engines here in Australia. So are you thinking we could confidently say that I have a plug and play project at hand? Such that it will start up and be driveable from day 1? This is the donor engine for transplant. N52B30AF . Last edited by Twoforty; 06-25-2016 at 08:23 AM.. Reason: pic |

N52 is MSV70 or MSV80.. only N53 would be MSD70 or MSD81.
if you are swapping DMEs you need the matching CAS and keys. I would hang on to your old DME to get it reprogrammed, since now your keys won't match your car - and if you need new ones from the dealer, it will be a pain in the ass. |

I was hoping not to swap computers.
Right now this does not sound like a simple plug and play project..... but a royal PITA. Not surprised my mechanic has been hesitant to tackle this project with me. Last edited by Twoforty; 06-25-2016 at 09:36 PM.. Reason: add |

Sorry to wake up this old thread Vagsfjord, but I am also installing an N52B30 in my car. Is there any social media I can contact you in? So we can communicate faster, and in norwegian?

Nobody has suggested an LS swap? Really?
I know, the government won't approve. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1985-bmw-318i-3/
