I know how you feel. I had the same kind of trouble replacing mine.

I took a piece of 2x4 and a rubber mallet and banged it for a while.
Then left the car in the sun with windows up to soften the plastic.

Finally came off.

I had to straddle the center console with the sunroof open and then I did a mini-squat to remove my shift knob. Not the prettiest sight but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I did the exact same thing with no luck. I'm not the strongest guy in the world but I was pulling hard to the point where I think it was flexing the carrier arm assembly. In that position, I was kind of afraid that when the knob would finally come off, it'd end up getting slammed straight into my nuts.

As much as I want to sell you my shift knob, just keep trying!

I'm probably the weakest guy I know but I thought I was going to break it at first. If you're doing the center console straddling method, put it in the fourth gear and pull straight with constant pressure and no twisting. It will pop off. I used a "tug-of-war" grip somewhat like this:

Thanks guys. I'll give it one more try tonight. Getting a spare knob shipped to me by a fellow member just in case.
