My brakes have arrived!

Cant wait to get these on now - just need to source the discs and M3 master cylinder next!

Nice. Whats the difference between a standard E9X and M3 master cylinder?

M3 master cylinder is bigger I believe, and allows more fluid to be moved.

There are conflicting reports about the need to use a M3 master.

Lots of people say they experience a soft pedal once they fit bigger brakes - so the solution is the M3 master!

The soft pedal is probably down to the piston sizes of the F3x system being completely different size than the E9x system. How do the piston sizes compare of the 2 systems?

I have no idea!

My current set up (using stock master cylinder) is F3x 4 pot fronts & E9x 1 pot stock rear - no pedal issues what so ever - it feels like stock.

As I say, some people seem to say the M3 master is needed, but some have fitted F3x front and rear and not upgraded the master.

If i'm honest, my motivation for fitting the rears is to better match the fronts!

My current braking performance is more than enough for a 325d - but any improvements gained from fitting the F3x rears too will be a welcome addition!

Very nice buddy.

I'd personally try fitting them and seeing how you get on before fitting the M3 master cylinder.

I've got 6pot/4pot Alcons and tbh I don't think the pedal is overly soft etc. If you fit them and do think it's softened too much then fair dos source/fit the new master cylinder.

^^ I Agree, try the calipers first and see what they are like.

How much do you need to shave off the mounts with the e60 disc? do you need to drill the caliper mounting lugs as well?

I'm tempted by the f30 bbk, but not keen on drilling the lugs. I'd rather just mod the calipers.

Yes the caliper mounting lugs on the hub need to be drilled from 10mm to 12mm & moved outward too to ensure the pads fully sweep the disc surface with no overhangs.

1.75mm of material is the general rule of thumb that's to be taken off the caliper mounting tabs with that E60 535 disc.

OK, if its just making the holes bigger, thats not to bad.

Does that not allow the oem calipers to go back on?

Well that sounds ok. (inner side or outer), do you have a pic?

thanks James.

Just seen this whilst lurking on the forum haha...

Did you explore this further?

You need the full wheel (incl airbag & MFSW trim / buttons) and it should be plug & play!

I never looked into it much further though!

Ah OK, was wondering if you had gripped it by any chance, I dont want a wee thin wheel after the Msport one lol!

Also, with your auto dimming mirrors ... is it only one side that dims? or if I could fit both dimming glasses they would both dim?

No, never experienced the Z4 wheel!

Both mirrors dim - you need both mirror glasses if you are going to retrofit!

Right OK, So with me having Auto Dim interior mirror and heated exterior (but not folding) I should be able to fit auto dim glass no issue?

I can only comment on my personal experience where I had the auto dim interior mirror from the factory on my car, in addition to that my stock mirror set up was:

Elec folding
Heated

Then I retrofitted the M3 mirrors which were:

Elec folding
Heated
Electrochromatic glass

Once they were physically bolted on - the VO was updated to reflect the auto dimming mirror glass option & they worked!!

I am not sure if elec folding mirrors are a prerequisite for the mod.

I think when these cars were new the only way to order electromatic glass was in conjunction with elec folding mirrors!

I could be wrong though!

yeah, I have code 431 (just interior) whereas code 430 is exterior folding + interior autodim so maybe the harness etc is already there.

Thanks for the help!

Another quick update...

My E60 discs have arrived now - 345mm

In other news, the car will be going into my local BMW bodyshop to have some warranty work done. I have a small rust bubble that has appeared around the numberplate area on the rear tailgate.

BMW have authorised the repair, but only for the affected area - so I will be paying the difference to have the entire tailgate repainted to ensure a perfect paint match.

I'll also de-badge the rear at the same time!

How did you get on with BMW and the warranty claim? And is that under the 12 year anti-corrosion warranty?

I'm asking because I have some rust bubbles appearing in the area under the lower edge of the rear tailgate glass (fairly common problem I believe) and have been thinking of going in to my local dealer to ask about making a claim.

Quick update on the car.

Just got it back after 3 days in at the paintshop.... the tailgate has been repainted under the anti-corrosion warranty.

I paid the difference to have the full thing done, as the warranty would only cover the bottom section of the tailgate. £107 well spent I'd day, as it also included a new BMW roundel for the tailgate too.

I also opted not to replace the 325d badging, I think it looks much cleaner de-badged

Agree no badge looks great. You did well there then as the BMW roundel is £30 lol!
