Couple coding questions *SOLVED*

Hello, I am in the final stages of CCC>CIC retrofit and have encountered a few issues:
  • How do I find out the VIN plus checksum? One of the coding tasks for the combox requires the VIN plus checksum (18 digits) and all I can find is that it will be displayed in NCSExpert somewhere. I do not see this.
  • Part of the nav map process is to use the swpatcher. You place a file on a USB stick and plug it in to the glovebox USB. The screen should go red and produce a 1b.hex file on the USB stick. Mine did show a red screen, but I did not let the CIC boot up all the way before removing the USB stick. I had no 1b.hex file. Subsequent attempts did not produce the red screen or 1b.hex file. It seems this is a one time shot you have to get this file, which is needed for the Jaeger map activation code phase. The nav is working but asks for a code. I don't know the map version that is installed. Can I somehow use my VIN to generate an activation code? I have the Jaeger program, btw.

I don't remember the exact steps but it's one of the very first steps when you try reading a module with NCS expert. Something like Start -> Select Chassis -> E89 it will pop up a menu to select a module to read the VIN and VO from. After selecting CAS or FRM, a window pops up to enter the VIN with the VIN already populated including the checksum digit at the end.

For your CIC install did you confirm which version firmware you have? The patcher only works on C1A. I just installed a CIC in my 06 330 and it works great after default coding, except the nav. Even my CCC idrive knob works perfectly without any special coding, incluidng the haptic feedback. I sourced it from a 2011 and the CIC has version C10... no patcher for me until I can borrow an ICOM/MOST cable and suitable power supply.

It's odd, the grey car showed the checksum in the VIN, but the green car did not.

I think my next step is to verify CIC firmware versions. I just assumed since my CIC's were from 2012 that they would have C1A. Also trying to source a 2-8GB USB stick and see if that helps retrieve my 1B file.

Everything else working like a charm, Bluetooth, txt messages, etc.

Just wanted to close the loop on this;

After several attempts I was finally able to pull the 1B file from both cars. What I did was this:
  • Found an old 128GB flash drive and formatted with FAT file system. (not FAT32)
  • Insert several times until the files were produced, leaving it for a few minutes at a time.

Did you confirm the firmware version? Was it C1A?
