Just completed my non sport wheel conversion to m sports wheel. The MFL buttons that I bought from a sport wheel with the odd symbols works just fine on my car. No programming was needed. Took me less then an hour. The airbag for non sports was a bit different to take off.

Just got a new E90 with the sport package and am thinking about the M-tech wheel - but I have the heated version - anyone know if the M-tech will swap cleanly with the wiring config? Don't that the M-tech is probably not able to be heated - got a deal on the car so took the ZCW package instead of a la carte.

I've got the steering wheel on order (and a paddle retrofit for my autobox from Burger tuning) but wanted to know if the new cover plate trim (the one on the front of the wheel, facing the driver) with the silver side stripes fits the older wheels?
My cover plate (and the one on the wheel I'm getting) is just plain black, I don't want the M one (my car isn't an M car dammit, my old M3 was and deserved the M badges), and think the silver accents would work very well with my silver dashboard trim... thanks! bfg |

I just completed this mod too and once you get the hang of popping off the airbag it is surprisingly easy.
I also added the complexity of the shifting paddles (which have to be wired to a connector near the gearshift) and overall it took me about two hours. A few pointers to others reading this thread: - The non-M wheel cover does not fit an M-wheel. - The airbag mounting plate on my M-sport wheel did not fit my old airbag properly - the airbag stuck out too much. Shifting the mounting plate from my old sports wheel onto the M-wheel fixed that. /bfg |

I just finished installing my new wheel yesterday. It was very easy. The airbag came off without any problems (although I have removed them before on my e60).
I just wanted to add, that like a few others, I did mine without disconnecting the battery. I have an e93, so the battery is a pain in the butt to disconnect. I simply put the ECU in sleep mode (closed all the doors but the drivers door, hit the lock button, and waited 30 mins). I was careful not to wake up the car by pulling door handles, etc. Once I connected the airbag back up and started the car, there were no codes or lights or anything. It all went smoothly. |

Just bought the M-Sport wheel with space for paddles, moving across from my Sports wheel (335D auto).
Does anyone know what the extra steps are to move the paddles across; and also, should I anticipate any problems with warning lights/having to recode the airbag, etc.? |

Great, thanks :-) By disconnecting the battery I won't lose my memory settings will I (key/seat positions/radio etc.)?

Excellent DIY! It took me about 40 minutes to do. Thanks to everyone for adding to the thread too. I especially found post #573 (on airbag removal) and the comments from people about not disconnecting the battery (using sleep) mode very helpful.

I just completed this past weekend. Thank you for the awesome write up, I never work on anything on my car and it was still easy due to great instruction. Next time I might attempt the short shifter install...

OK I was successful on my 4th attempt.
Tried using several sizes of screwdriver and the one that got me successful was 5mm screwdriver. Another reason why it took me so hard to get the airbag unit off because my car was in an accident and the airbag unit was deployed. Now I am using this tutorial to get the unit fit right back into the M steering wheel (something BMW service center couldn't get it right.). Now I guess I need to order the plate showing in #485 and the multi-function buttons (one mulfunction). Not sure if I can order it from the dealer. Anyone has an idea? BTW, anyone know how to take the airbag cover off the airbag unit? |

where is everyone getting their Msport steering wheels? Tischer has one for $350 I think which is the cheapest. How much would I be able to sell my stock OEM one for?

just followed the instructions from this post. great DIY and easy to follow! just be careful with the steering wheel trim, the holes on the steering wheel trim (cover) are plastic, so just be careful when screwing, unscrewing the three torx screws, i stripped one but i just filled it with glue, screwed it back in, then held it tight for a few minutes. hopefully that'll hold up over time... if not, i might have to pick up a replacement cover trim.

Does anyone know if you can order this screw and grounding point?
I purchased MTech wheel used and it did not come with a screw or grounding pin to slide in harness connector. anyone else have to fabricate one?
