Just another wagon
Last year, I partnered up with a local shop, Greenwood Motosports to hunt down an E91 with the options I was looking for. Some months went by and both Jason, head huncho at GMS, found a few wagons but there was always something that didn't fit what we were looking for. Around September 2017, I stumbled upon this 2012 sample in Seattle and we immediately jumped on it. The car the sport package, m-sport aero, iDrive, XDrive, and a few other things. Few weeks later and it made its way to Chicago.
Currently, there are no mods done besides getting the windows tinted. Getting maintenance all sorted and enjoying the car Mod list as of Mar 29 2021 Interior:

By mid fall, I fell more and more in love with the wagon Then we had snow. I threw on some weak sized wheels and winter tires. Couldn't be happier Last edited by squaredphoto; 03-29-2021 at 12:13 PM.. |

Just crossed 70k and did some changes since the last post.
In April, my TPMS module got corroded from all the salt and caused my FRM to get busted as well. Got both of those replaced. IND is about a stones throw away from me so I've been doing some "browsing" there.. Ryan@IND helped with getting a 3DDesign rear wing, painted front sidemarkers, and now there are some wheels on the way too I found a very cheap set of EU tails and light switch overseas so I had to put them on . I got a set of Reinharte R1 (sister company of Stance Suspension) coilovers and we are currently in the prototype phase. They ride and handle great, but on high speed impacts of over an inch, there's an instant harsh bump stop impact. Gotta get that figured out. We are running 9K front and 16K rear. We noticed that the stock rear suspension bushing were way to soft and were acting as a secondary spring. The rear would oscillate over wavy roads and continuous rough patches in the road. Those soft bushings didn't allow the coilover to actually do its job. I got a set of AKG Motorsport poly 85A rear upper suspension bushings. The fit an finish of the bushings is great and install was super easy. Instantly, the rear end was "firmer" and more responsive to my input. They eliminated that weird behavior I was experiencing prior to having them installed. Along with the bushings, I put a set of SPL rear toe arms to tidy up the alignment. We went for -1.5* camber front and rear and 0* toe all the way around. Once we figure the front out, it will be set . I'm considering upgrading the rear sway bar as well for some better rear turn in. Need to research the alternatives that are out there. |

Not much has changed since last time other than raising the front end a little bit. This significantly increased the the ride quality especially over significant bumps and I never hit bump stomp now
Since the car now has about 73k miles and getting into the territory of when the water pump may fail, I found a P3 vent gauge on the forum and have now been able to monitor a whole lot of metrics. I usually leave the view on 'Coolant.' I'll get pictures of the setup next time. Still waiting on wheels to get here, but they'll be here soon IND paint matched reflectors are top notch! |

A few things have changed since last time
Suspension wise, I'm no longer running Reinharte R1 coilovers due to wanting more comfort and simplicity. Below is the current setup: Koni Yellow front struts Eibach Pro springs ( for RWD model ) Ground Control Street camber plate E36 front bump stops TC Kline rear shocks AKG rear upper and lower shock mounts SPL adjustable rear toe arms After a few thousand miles, I started hearing clicking from the front end and a really strange whine from the engine. The clicking was due to a torn passenger CV boot. I installed a used axle instead because I don't know how long it's been damaged for. The whine was coming from oil filter cap. The cap and the little cylinder inside came apart like this: Strange... but easy to fix Got some new wheels through IND. Rays Gramlight G07EX 18 x 9.5 +35 Front wheels needed a 5mm spacer to clear the struts. Also through IND ( thanks Cat!! ) I was able to acquire the Individual Maple Anthracite trim. It was for a non-iDrive setup, so I had to make my own iDrive to non-iDrive center console adapter. It was my first time doing anything like this and I think it came out pretty ok! I finished it all together with the performance shift lever + boot and ebrake handle + boot. A lot of the newer BMW models come with this titanium looking trim. Ryan@IND was able to help me out and try recreating the same look with a spare set of kidneys. Still not sure how I like them, but worth a shot. Lastly, just threw in a Euro intake box that I found in the marketplace on here. Instant throttle response improvement and my butt dyno is telling me the car feels quicker. Still want to try getting a silicon intake boot and maybe a 330 intake manifold down the line. Last edited by squaredphoto; 04-28-2020 at 11:23 PM.. |
