Motul 300 v is highly recommended but not cheap - or LL04 rated I think ?
I run Castrol Edge Sport 0w40. as BN states it's cheap for me at £68 for 7 litres from a wholesaler. In store it would be double that. SJ |

I remember back when I was on the LS1 boards all the time. Those guys raved about GC (German Castrol) and were getting very good oil analysis results with this oil. This was mainly due to all the piston slap problems the early LS1's had, and the guys running the GC were reporting some good things.
Me personally, I run the BMW oil in my car mainly because I'm a master tech and it's readily available to me. Also, I've had many a BMW engine apart in my day, and aside from the 99-01 V8's I always find spic and span clean engines as long as the 15K miles intervals were adhered to. I just had the valve cover off of a 2000 528 with 285K miles on it. This customer changed the oil by the service indicator (every 15K miles) and that engine was as clean as brand new.

Anyone know if the longlife rating has anything to do with performance? (cleaner for sure though) I changed mine with 04 already but just curious. I would have gone for GC 0W30 too, but got the 04 rated Elf at wholesale price, so...

No - Mobile 1 in the proper weight and filter change will serve your car well. But I strongly advise you to replace it within 7,500 milea or six months (whichever comes first) with whatever oil BMW recommends ( a "Search for recommended oils would not hurt - just be sure they are for the hot running turbo 335i of yours) and keep notations in your Maintence Booklet to attreact future buyers. I've used GC for several months now and love it. The engine revs easier and smoother for a much longer period of time. In fact, after 7K miles it still feels as it would right after an oil change with the regular BMW oil.
