CEO's earn what you make annually in one day

It's disturbing how in the event of what is going on with everyone else, they are still being paid handsomly (for now at least).

its unfair i know but they worked their ass off to get there. Luck combined with hardwork got them there and to some degrees they deserve it.

not when they get paid 400 times more than the average cnd. IM sorry but you dont need $51 million dollars a year. Sure they might deserve it, but if the company is struggling the ceo's should be first in line for pay cuts, not layoffs and such

It's still a better investment than paying a Hockey Player $20 million a year!

I say pay the Doctor's the big money, they deserve it.

I DON'T see anything wrong with CEO's being paid as much as they do, everything they earn is determined by a Director's broad/committee (whatever you want to call it), its not like CEO's just write cheques to themselves when they want and how ever much they want...

The time that a CEO puts into their company is very valuable, so they should be paid accordingly, for example, I learned in my Economics class some time back that if a $100 bill is left on the ground, it wouldn't even be worth the time for Bill Gates to bend over and pick it up, his time is that valuable to his business, company, shareholders, etc....

I Think that if a hockey player that makes 20 million a year is better then a CEO making 50. Hockey players bring in fans in which buy food, jerseys ect... CEO who makes 50 million that has to cut employees does not deserve that money regardless of education. He should have made smarter choices that is just my view of it

Just exactly how much smarter should they possibly be? Every CEO is different, every company is ran differently as well.

I don't hate on them at all. They've put in their time, now they're reaping in the rewards. If someone wants to be a loblaws meat-wrapping guy, thats their perogative - after all, we need these people around as well.

Other than a relatively new business which just explodes in the market place, most CEO's have put in 10-15+ years in whatever specialty they originally went for. I say kudos for them since we don't have enough public displays of hard-work and determined ambition figures.

If you don't like it, you should jump in the time machine and move back to the U.S.S.R. or China circa 1980. Should every Canadian get paid the same? If so, I'm moving my family down to the States.

ahhahah. so true. i agree the CEO's deserve the money in good times, but they should take deep cuts during the bad times. golden parachutes should not be part of their contracts, if the ship sinks the CEO should go down with his ship like a real captain!

You guys might find this interview interesting, you get a real CEO's response to your concerns about their pay, it's an interview with RBC's CEO Gordon Nixon, most of the interview is about the growth prospects of the bank for 2009, RBC's performance and earnings, credit concerns, economic outlook, etc...so skip to about 19:15 of the clip if you don't care about any of that
