I haven't changed my pan yet, so I don't know the difference in quality, if any. However, I have used Rmeuropean before and I really like them.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Double check the type of transmission you have on realoem.com, but a 335i should have a ZF made 6HP19 transmission. I would suggest going to www.thectsc.com and get the parts, it's alot cheaper than getting it from the dealership. They aren't BMW stamped parts, but they are the same thing direct from the transmission manufacturer. They sell a complete kit (6 liters of fluid, new pan (integrated filter, new magnets, gasket and drain plug, and a new fill plug) for about $240. If you order just the pan from BMW, no gasket, plugs, etc. just pan w/filter, it'll run you about the same amount. |

ATF change
Thank you for the post. How many miles did the transmission have and what was the condition of the pan? Was there much residue attached to the magnet? I contacted your supplier, thectsc. But I wonder whether to change the pan and flush ATF, or only flush ATF with 10-12 liters of Lifeguard 6 and leave the pan (and filter) alone. The car has 44,000 miles, no track time or hard driving.

thank you
Dracon, thank you for your post. Drain the pan, fill, plug, drive the car through all gears, drain, fill and plug again, 10-12 liters of ATF in all?

I wanna do it right this time. I did not run the engine while I added oil last time.
I could not pump in no more than 5 qts of the Castrol Transmax Multi-Import. Now I learned that it needs to be in right temp and run the engine while pump in the last 1.25 qts. If it's any consolation, I've ran bit less than 5 qts of the oil for around 30k miles and no problems. |

On a related question, if the oil level is low as if it had slow leak on the seal at the top or sleeve seal, would OIL TEMP rise and trigger dash light to come on?
I know TEMP is part of OBD I I standards. Never had temp trigger code on my INPA or OBD scanner. |

I also used the Castrol Transmax Multi-Import fluid few months back. For some reason I think the person who did the job for me either did not add enough fluid in or its due the Castrol fluid but I still experiencing rough shifting only at at times. No warning lights though... I am considering doing another fluid flush (this time using the ZF fluid) without changing pan of course, just in case. |
