Do you have anything to connect to the ODBII port? A code scanner, or laptop with BMW Tools? If not, you can look at the casing for the FRM. In my 2011 335 it is on the inside of the footwell next to my left foot. It should have a sticker telling you what type it is. You may have to remove it to see this, I'm not sure which side the sticker will be on.

Go into ISTA-D and have it read for your VIN. You can tell it to read VIN and do Complete Test. Once complete, you can click on Control Unit Tree. You will see your FRM. If I remember correctly, if you hover over the FRM it will tell you what type it is. You will see something like what is in the screenshot. If this doesn't work for you, I will check when I get home for exact instructions.
