Thanks for the write up Carlos. It was a great day, from the convey down there and back, the fantastic service from DMS and that unforgettable drive with Rob in that M5! I'm really impressed with the results of the re-map, its transformed the car and on the road it will leave just about anything standing. What's more as a bonus the car is definitely more economical - even when using the extra power!

What a fantastic writeup Carlos!! Glad all has gone well today for you both.

It will be interesting to see how the MPG gets affected (if at all). Also do we know of any adverse effects of getting cars chipped? Engine life/cooling, catalyst functioning, oil requirements/cooling etc I was born a cynic for some reason, and just cant help thinking there has to be catch somewhere, apart from the BMW warranty issue.

Yes mate the Convoy down and back was awesome, think we lit up the tarmac a few times

SDRX: I dont think long term there will be many issues, its not a major conversion.. JUst a little more fuel and a little more boost.

If you turned the wick up to 400bhp then i think you would start seeing failed turbos and headgaskets. But then upgrade those components and im sure 450bhpis acheivable..

BUT..... will anyone take it that far...?!

Carlos,

Here in Portugal we have two of the best chiptuners of the world and you shoud know that. The most strong 335d that we have here have 370hp and 730Nm but it enter at safe-mode at 260Km/h because of the pressure of the 2º turbo (big one)...

Just to have a idea, they take 14sec. to reach 200Km/h:

So, 400hp is not possible to reach because the gear-box don't suport so much torque power and the 2 turbos and the colectors will broken.

Try to do a similiar aceleration from 0-180Km/h and you will see the diference between DMS and Vilauto.

Just a curiosity, the 330d that compete in Gumball was made by Miguel Patrocinio from MB Power in Portugal.

Regards,
Rick

With 730nm the gearbox is over its torque limit and will surely give problems and the particle filter will also certainly fail at those power levels

No, Carlos! I'm runing with 350Hp and 730Nm! But i have now 32.000km and i have a vibration in the transmission when I do kick-down but to feel this vibration you must be seat behind the driver.
But if you acelerate normal, nothnig happen. In BMW they say it's the difencial but i'm not sure. So, they are going to replace the difrencial but without sure that will resolve this problem.

It is not unusual for BMW just to blindly replace parts (even expensive ones) in the hope that a problem will go away.

This is one particular area where they annoy me.

My old 330d used to have a whine which came from the transmission somewhere when you were cruising along a flat surface at a constant 60-65 mph. They first replaced the diff, then the gearbox, and finally found that replacing the driveshaft sorted the problem.

I later found out that this was a previously known problem (to BMW Germany) and all that was needed was a minor modification to the driveshaft.

Its ridiculous to imagine the amount of time and money they wasted by not doing some research into the problem initially.

I hope you get your transmission shudder sorted out ok and will keep a keen ear out for the same in my car.

No I dont sorry, I only know German tuners.

If you lower the torque to within the safe design of the transmission then you will find the components will last a little longer than 32,000km IMO

Do Emaps have a remap available for the 335i yet?

Hi CD,

Their going rate is expensive, altho i negotiated a good deal for us. We didnt pay top dollar

You must also remember there the only tuning firm offering a full warranty.

BP Ultimate Denzel does work i feel, it does not give you like 10bhp or anyhting but the car just feels smoother and seems to have more zest.

When i ran with tesco she felt a bit flat after a few tankfulls.
