Half engine light on help.

HI,
I was driving today and the half engine light came on and stayed on. When that happen, the car was slow to respond to acceleration pedal and power was weak. My car is a 2008 335xi and it's bone stock. When I got to my destination, I turn off the car. The light didn't come on again when I came back to start and drive off. I drove for about 30 miles and it didn't come on. I have being searching on how to read the codes off the car, is there a way to read the codes off the car or do I have to take it to say autozone or dealer?

So I drove about 30 miles to the nearest autozone. They hook their code reader to the car, came out as no codes. Will be taking the car to the dealer come Monday, is this common though?

Depending on the cause it may be very common. I would estimate the #1 cause of limp modes is a 30FF "boost leak." Since the car is stock that seems less likely but without codes it's impossible to know for sure.

Service engine light on help (P0306)

Hi,
driving from work today, got off an exit step on it a little, service engine light came on. Car started stuttering and shaking. I was close to home, manage the ~2 miles home doing like 40mph on the highway. Got home, shut off the car. Waited some few seconds then start it back up and service light was gone and car runs normal. Drove it around a little then went to my local Autozone and I got the code
P0306
My car is bone stock. I bought it with 60k miles on it. Don't know when last plugs where changed, don't know if valves where ever cleaned. I remember the car fax did say that some injectors were changed somewhere around 35k miles.

Any ideas what could be the problem?

Thanks

That is a misfire code, switch the cylinder 1 and 6 ignition coils and see if you get a different code next time (cyl 1 code), that will mean the coil is to blame

If you are still getting misfire on 6, it could be the injector, and you should have the plugs pulled (and replaced if unknown last change) to inspect their condition to verify injector failure

how many miles on the car now?

where in MN are you? (I have an INPA laptop that can read more codes)

I just had a very similar situation.
Only happened when starting from cold, and was worse when the the ambiant temperature was cold.

Swapped coils and plugs, then eventually replaced the injector on Cylinder 1.
Now it runs perfectly again.

I hope yours is as easy to resolve.

driving home last night from phoenix to Prescott valley (az)
had 3 passengers with me
running jb4 map 1
night time around 10:00pm

it was an empty highway no traffic I felt like driving fast (wot)
anyways this half engine come on
I was driving up hill when this happen over 100mph
when I felt the engine apply some kind of engine brake
at first I thought it was the engine governor limit. this triggered the half engine light so I lost power pulled off on the next exit turned the car off.
right away I turned the car back on because I'm in the middle of nowhere don't want to get stranded and the engine light goes away .

I get online start looking for similar encounters
found a lot of different answers didn't realize how common this problem is

went to my local auto parts store down the street from my house to check for codes no codes came up

hopefully this is just a maintenance issue. I don't know how to preform jb4 data logging (still learning) reading when i figure it out i will post the graph.

i love this car, i am bummed out and would like to drive hard from time to time without any issue's

i did manage to take some pictures
