If you want to add a key and want to do it the easy way buy BMW Multi Tool. It's very good and simple to use. Then when done just sell it...

Hi,
I own a MultiTool and have made new keys for an older E90 with it with no problems.
I will soon try to make a spare key for my year 2012 E90. It is supposed to be possible with the MultiTool but I may need to update to the latest version first.

Your other alternative is to purchase a new key from the dealer. A key from the dealer consist of two part numbers: To save some money you can purchase only the electronic half part from BMW, (and cut the mechanical blade yourself at your nearest automotive locksmith onto a 'China' blank blade).
Cheers,

Cheers,
Yes, I already got a blade cut. Those blades are HU92, with the mechanical code, those are pretty straight forward. It costs me about $20 cut them.

Keyfob on the other hands, I have a few virgin type 5 fobs sitting around. If I can get them to add to my car, it'd be sweet.

Can you please update me your progress on the 2012 E90? Which CAS system does it have? Mine says CAS3++ (ISTAP). I think it's just encrypted CAS3+, but I was unsuccessful with FVDI2018. I don't know why!
