What's the craziest thing you've ever done for your car?

I'm just curious to see if anyone else cares about their decade old BMW as much as I do lol.

To start things off, I once covered the front end of my then 10 year old 330i with blue painters tape to "protect it from rock chips" on a 9 hour drive from San Diego to Monterey. I've also pulled over just to clean bird poop off of my hood because I couldn't wait until my next stop.

My friends and family make fun of me, but she's my baby. Anyone else this up tight about their ride?

Preventative maintenance. Makes sense to me, but seems crazy to some others.

Many years ago I once found bird crap baked onto my headlight. I was about to drive and meet some friends. In 20 minutes I restored the headlight and was late.

I fixed my OCD soon after.

I'd say it was the recent steering wheel wrap and plastic trim repaint around the airbag. From start to finish it took a good 10hrs, but I'm very happy with the results on both.

The steering wheel had an ugly wear spot at the 2pm position from a previous owner apparently never varying his grip, and the trim had the typical peeling 'paint' problem they're common for near the buttons. I wet sanded the peeling crap off the trim piece then sprayed the same black trim paint that I used for the peeling circular trim ring around the start/stop button because I knew the color match was spot-on. Leather wrap quality is outstanding with a great feel to it. Got it from these peeps:

I put a new engine in mine less than 2 months after buying it. I had never done an engine job on any type of car before. It was intimidating starting my experience on a N54 wrapped in an unbelievable amount of confusing electrical and plumbing for air, water, and oil.

Oh, and the engine was for a different N54 than mine. And I don't have a lift.

I'd say that's pretty crazy for me.

My friends dad owns an after market turbo company, for an entire summer I would drive around California to let my car be used as a show car for his company (The 335i I own used to belong to Lee takagi of Rotora Brakes who took it to SEMA) just to get a free turbo upgrade

Not this car, but I used metal clothing hangers to hold my full 3" straight pipe exhaust to my old Pontiac.

Of course it didn't last and the entire exhaust fell off 2 miles from my house haha

Awesome. I had the same peeling trim issue, but because of my Dakota beige interior, it was a little harder to paint-match. I ended up popping off a grab handle and having it paint-matched with house paint at Home Depot. Sounds crazy, but it's durable and when applied with a sponge to the leather textured plastic, you can't even tell!

I used remove my wheels and use Sonax wheel clean, 4 different types of scrub brushes then wax each wheel twice a month. Some times once a week if they got dirty enough.

Did you have to buy it back from insurance company or deal with a salvage title or anything?
