I have the MFD scoops and have not had any problems with water/dirt. I think it's the design of the scoops that have this problem.

I've noticed the sand particles as well but I haven't had any bugs like that stuck to my filter.
I guess that's why the filter is there huh? I've seen bugs in other air fiter boxes before without scoops.

LOL i love how everyone raved about the scoops a couple months ago and now this......
Now my concern is what happens when you take your car to a car wash and water is blasted into the grill? Has anyone checked yet how much water gets into the airbox?

As long as it is not contacting the radiator, you will develop a low pressure area behind the scoop and there will be air flow through it.

Yea, the filter is doing what it is supposed to. The big difference in pre-scoops is the amount of time between filter change and box cleaning. It took less time to accumulate debris and the filter to become visibly dirty with scoops than without. To me, just means I need to perform maintenence more often.

Minimal and nothing to be concerned with. Most moisture would get caught in the filter and then dry out quickly with the airflow.

I did a lot of extensive testing with/without the scoops including 13 qtr mile runs solely to evaluate them. Perhaps the obstruction of airflow through the radiator effects other cars differently than mine? Now I'm not sure about the low pressure not being a detriment to air flow. I mean if you have a dyno fan blowing at your car and then have a person stand between the fan and your car, don't you think the air flow would be obstructed? How would the low pressure zone right after that person be a positive influence on the cooling of the car? If you look at cross sectional area available for air flow through the kidney grills, you can see the scoops (at least in my situation) interfere with about 30% of the available area. So yes, more air flow for your air box possibly, but less for the radiator. Our cars are already pretty strained as far as radator capacity. Thus BMW is very focused on enhancing the coolant system on their power upgrade. And yes, you do get much more debris in the airbox, but that was pretty much expected.

I would think that a cleaning every time I change the oil would be good. It's not that hard to pop the lid, vacuum, and then put everything back.

If this thread says anything, it should be showing people that scoops ARE doing something. I had no scoops before and had a tiny amount debris, then put scoops on and had a decent increase amount of debris (same driving amount/habits). If more air is being focused into the box, you're gonna get more debris along with it. Solution.... clean your box more. The filter stops all of it (at least oem does).
It takes me less than 5 minutes to pop off the lid, vacuum, and snap back on the lid. About double the time of filling up the tank.

Well to answer my own question: yes water might get into the airbox, but not a lot and there is a small drain hole for it to get out. I drove through a downpour and a high pressure car wash, there was no water in the airbox when it was raining and just a tiny amount after the car wash that drained out. This is with the RPI scoops.
Also there is more debris in the filter box, I caught a whole dragon fly this weekend
