Talk about a teaser...so close yet so far...

So, I order my 335i coupe on Jan. 13 '07. On Feb. 13, the build is started. By Feb 21 it is at the port waiting transport. On Feb 27, the Asian King leaves Germany and is scheduled for my home port, Baltimore, on March 14...just 4 days from now. So far so good...right? Moving right along...right? I am getting really excited...right? So, I shoot my sales guy an e-mail asking how many days to get the car from the dock to the dealer? (Now, keep in mind, the dealer is about 15 miles from the dock.) I am thinking like 3 days. Maybe 5 tops...right? Wrong!!! He says it usually takes 3 weeks!!! I am like...you have got to be freakin' kidding me! So, my car comes off the ship on next Wed. and what?...sits around on a parking lot for 3 weeks until someone puts it on a car carrier?

Talk about a teaser...so close, yet so far...

There is no way it should take that much more additional time to arrive once it docks,a few days at the most ! Ask your CA to give you a faxed copy of the sheet that shows the status of your car.It's called the DAR ( dealer activity report and it's printed daily),that will give you the true story !

FWIW, mine was offloaded in Elizabeth NJ on 1/2, I picked up at the dealer (about 30 mi away) on 1/8.

The car has to go to VDC once it gets off the ship. Then will go to the dealer

Vehicle Delivery Center, also you should know about these:
VPC=Vehicle Preparation Center
PDI= Pre Delivery Inspection

There sure are a lot of acronyms. So, must the car go through all those steps? That is, VDC, VPC, and PDI? I suppose yes. The dealer said it needs to go through customs too. No wonder it takes so freakin long to get to the dealer. I keep telling myself...patience...patience...

I'm on the same boat as you..it dock on 3/2 and awaiting to be transport to the dealership. The ships dock about twice a week. I think there is a massive delay in processing/cleaning/carrier transport. Other ports have a better/faster processing than NY/NJ

. Hopefully, this week...it sucks...

where did you hear about the VPC delays? Mine still has not arrived at the dealer - It arrived at the port on 3/1

After bitching to my sales guy about it taking 3 weeks to get from dock to dealership, he did a little more probing. Now he is telling me it should be ready for delivery by the end of next week. If he is right, that means it will take approximately 10 days from dock to delivery. Well see... Got my fingers crossed...and my toes...and my...well, you get the idea.

I was on the AIDA - docked in NYC on 3/2. Originally dealer told me it only takes 2-3 days and I could pick it up on 3/5-3/6

Dealer said car got put on a truck yesterday and should be in CT by Friday (why does it take 3 days to go from NYC to CT? I didn't ask)

Should pick up on Sat.

Mine was also on AIDA. Dealer told me that the ship was delayed due to bad weather conditions and then the process of taking the cars off the ship was delayed due to icy conditions on the port. So it didn't get to the processing center until 9th. Processing center is planning to release the car on thursday. I should be getting it this weekend.
