BMS Cowls Review for 335d!

Well I had been waiting for a big rain storm before I did this so I finally got my wish and it flooded part of my city.

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/we...-county/nchpT/

Anyways like some I like to tweak and look around every aspect of the car and spend a bit of time looking around the engine bay so I decided the BMS Cowl would be a great add-on to the car. I was initially turned off by the idea of having water run into the bay but I knew everything was sealed properly as I wash my bay from time to time with water and said hell why not. Here they are before and to the current setup.

I originally had everything removed and very much enjoyed it here are the honest benefits of having the covers off at least for me.

•Louder basically everything from inside the cabin(Turbos, Engine, Pumps etc)
•Outside I could say the same but not by much
•Easier access to Engine cover and other components tucked away
•Looks cleaner too
•Washable and excellent air filter

My honest downsides after a bit of owning it.

•None really other than water but YOU should know this before buying it
•IT wasnt free

Anyways I enjoy having the covers off but I like to keep a very clean engine bay if you havn't noticed lol and after a big rain storm like above dirt and water everrrrryyywheeeerreeeee haha but not a big deal. Heres a video of that storm from my view, engine-bay after the rain and my phone telling me to be safe lol

The reason I decided to put back the tray was the water mostly, It's two screws extra and piece of mind from the rain not a big deal. I think it honestly is the best of both worlds. UNLESS you can afford an M3 cowl conversion ;] i like that but im on a budget haha so impressions with tray?

•Less access obviously
•Less noise from small components cleaner sound from engine I would say
•I can still hear the turbos outside
•Inside its mostly engine but much louder than usual less plastic I guess
•Peace of mind from water everywhere
•Keeps my bay cleaner!
•AC breaths a little better (Heat does exit close to the filters, you can see it after it rains steam comes off if you dont have the tray on)

Overall I like this product and im sure it will pay itself off in the years to come since I do not need to buy a huge cabin filter lol. Ill keep it on along with the tray and wont complain one bit.

As for weight saving someone mentioned it before take a poop and bam performance gains!

Thanks for the write-up. Am thinking about this also. Don't know much about the M3 cowling.

Haha welcome aboard! I love my Lumia it was disappointing at first app wise but now its on par with everything else. I keep my iphone around for the certain apps like the BMW diagnostic apps which i plan to get later. Glad youre enjoying it and it only gets better from here ;D

Bump of an old but very useful thread, with some questions.

OP, thanks for the pictures and write up.

I believe this should help with the A/C cooling down the cabin better? Well, basically in my older honda etc. cars of 1990s, when the weather was cold outside, I could turn the fan on and leave A/C off, and the cool air from outside would find its way into the cabin through the filter. Perfect!

But with my BMWs I have found that this doesn't work very well, meaning if I don't have the A/C on, the air that gets into the cabin is warmed up a lot.

Would this help with that scenario? Getting a cooler outside air into the cabin without turning the A/C on??

Also, having had this for a while now, have you had any issues with water (in rain stroms) getting into things due to lack of plastic cover?

Sorry if these are obviously answered elsewhere and I missed it. I appreciate any feedback you might have.
