Walked U's vs. Terry vs. others GTG last night...summation and VIDEO inside.
So I know Sherwin recently posted up the videos his gf took from his car during last nights shenanigans, and now here are the videos from inside Terry's car that I took. ***Thanks again Adam for helping me out with that.***
Here is the link: http://s198.photobucket.com/albums/a...-Terry335i.flv Here's the break down. First off, let's say this, Terry's JB2R car and Sherwins PROcede v2.02 car were basically tied. Now, let's clear up the air about the dyno amounts. First off, doubtful Sherwin's car is making much more power. He dynoed like 365 rwhp when he had catless DP's on v2.01 on Shiv's dyno. He now has hi-flow cats which probably take away 10-15 rwhp but now has v2.02 which add 15+ peak rwhp. So I'd guess Sherwin would dyno in the 370-375 rwhp range on 93 octane He did not have the same map as Shiv when Shiv trapped at 116.8. Terry, on his JB2R with 96 Octane and his current set up has dynoed at 345 rwhp, but according to Terry, that dyno reads 10-15 rwhp lower than most. So, I'd suffice it to say Terry, on a less conservative dyno would be in 360+ rwhp range. That's within 10-15 rwhp of what I'd guess Sherwin would dyno on the same dyno. So why were the races basically a tied if Sherwin has 10-15 rwhp more and same weights?? Automatic tranny. Faster shifts and lower final drive ratio overcomes the 10+ rwhp difference. I've said it before and will again, the autos in the 335i just rock (for an auto). Walked U saw me pull 1.5 CL's on JonMartin last night with my auto over his manual. Sure I had probably 175+ lbs less weight in my car, but he also has probably 15 rwhp more than me because of his catback. I have not lost to a manual equipped 335i with similiar mods yet. It was a fun time last night. Man was I tired getting home at 3 am! More details in following posts. Last edited by Driver72; 11-22-2007 at 11:06 AM.. |

Okay, many of us have wondered about the weight of Terry's car.
Well today, Terry and I met up again to weigh our respective cars on a Public heavy machinary scale. Certified from the State of California. Here goes: Terry's car is a base model sedan with auto transmission. He has ultra light weight wheels (16.5 lbs each) He as LW battery (16 lbs...or about 25 lbs less than a stock one) He has a slightly lightened exhaust from removing the 2nd cats and resonators (probably 15 lbs removed) but has cut-outs that add a couple pounds so figure his exhaust is 8 lbs less. He has his A/C pollen filter removed (about 10 lbs) and his trunk cover out. We concluded, if compared to a BONE STOCK 335i sedan with auto, sport package, premium package and Sirius, his car would weigh 148 lbs less. That's 148 real pounds. We agreed (with both of our experiences that rotational mass is equivalent...in these cars cases...to be about 1.7 lbs for every 1 lbs removed in rotational mass. Since his wheels are in reality about 48 lbs less than stock 18" sport wheels/tires, that's really like being about 82 lbs in sprung weight, or about 34 lbs more. So, to the 148 lbs real weight, you can add 34 lbs more for an effective weight difference of: 182 lbs less. Meaning, if Terry's was to run a bone stock 335i sedan with premium and sport packages, and Sirius, he'd have a weight advantage of about 180 or so lbs. Now as for the runs with Walked U last night.
Well, I'd say with Terry and me in his car, and Sherwin and his gf in his car, the race weights between the two cars were within 30 lbs of each other. Sherwin has some mods to his car that drop weight, but also have mods that ADD weight (larger FMIC and oil cooler). Car to car, I'd venture to say Terry's car would be probably effectively (taking the rotational mass advantage into consideration) about 100-120 lbs less. But last night, both Terry and I weigh more than Sherwin and his gf. Terry and I combined weigh about 355-360. Sherwin and his gf combine weigh about 245-250. So Terry's 100-120 lbs car's weight advantage was basically completely eaten up by the occupants. So it was probably purely the difference in the amount of gas between the cars that would differentiate the weights. Again, both had somewhere around 1/3rd tank, both on 96ish Octane. So other than the auto vs. manual tranny, the comparo was pretty fair. |

Last note.
Sherwin had a new dual cone filter intake, that we are all pretty confident actually HURT him. The two cone filters are NOT a cold air intake by any means. They are two open element cone filters sitting directly above the engine right where the stock airbox would be. They do NOT have any cold air funnelling to them nor do they even have a heat shield protecting them from the engines heat. In fact, if anything, they have nothing but HOT, HOT engine heat that is trapped under his hood going directly into them. We couldn't see how they would possibly help with engine temps as hot as they are, especially when drag racing multiple times like that. I'm sure he would of been better off with the stock airbox and a drop in air filter. Whew, I think that covers that. Feel free to ask questions about last nights runs between all of the cars (not just Terry and Walked U's too). |

I weighed my car at this same scale several months ago when it was stock and full of fluids.
I didn't see the reading but was told by the guy it was 3360 lbs. I think he might not of seen the second digit correctly. Because this time around it read 3560 lbs (my only mods are wheels and tires that weigh 5-6 lbs lighter than stock). But this time around I had probably 8-10 lbs more stuff on and in my car then I did when I weighed it stock. So really even though my wheels/tires weigh a total of 20-22 lbs less, I had close to 10 lbs more stuff on (aero front spoiler, procede) and in (jacket and videocamera) my car. So in reality my car is probably only 10 lbs lighter this time. Terry's car weighed in at 3460 lbs (or 100 lbs less than mine) but I have a coupe and he has a sedan. The coupes are 22 lbs lighter than the sedan. We both met up at a gas station about 1 mile away and filled our tanks before we weighed the cars. The scales are probably accurate to within 10-15 lbs at this point too. We tested it by having Terry then step on the scale to see what it read. It added 180 lbs to the weight of his car. Terry himself weighs around 190-195. So it's pretty impressive a HUGE scale like that can be that close with just adding 190 or so lbs. That would be like adding .2 lbs to your home scale and it showing .15 lbs added. |

The sport/non sport sedans have the same brakes. The difference is the seats, suspension, rims, and oil cooler, AFAIK. We figured the sport vs. non-sport was worth ~15# if you ignore the rims.

Your car is 148 lbs "real" weight less than a stock 335i sedan with auto, premium, sport and sirius. -48 lbs for the wheels -25 lbs for the battery -10 lbs for the a/c pollen filter -8 lbs for your exhaust mods -5 lbs for any other little things I might be missing that you have off your car or is not part of the packages = 52 lbs. Unless I forgot something, that means the Sport, Premium, and Sirius combined weighs 52 lbs. I'd say it breaks down like this: Sport Package = 40 lbs Premium Package = 7 Sirius = 5 lbs |

48# for the rims 35# for battery 7# for cowl/hvac filter 7# for trunk mat 15# for exhaust mods For a total of 112 lighter than stock. This is based on my digital bathroom scale. The balance 36# must be sport, leather, sirius, oil cooler, etc. |

I didn't think your exhaust mods were quite a 15 lbs savings either. But if you weighed them than that's that. In that case of the 36 lbs I'd say: 25 lbs is sport package 5 lbs is Sirius 6 lbs is Premium package (leather, folding mirrors). |
