Charge pipe - Not covered by CPO warranty?

I have an '09 335i and my factory charge pipe broke in two. When taken to the dealer, they denied that the part is covered with my CPO warranty, which states that engine parts are indeed covered.

Not only would this cost an unnecessary amount of money, but I also can't run an aftermarket and superior pipe because it could potentially void my warranty in the future.

Does anyone else see this as a legitimate and unfair concern or is it possible that the charge pipe somehow falls into the "upkeep" category.

Looks like you need a new warranty. I've seen plenty of folks bring their car in with an aftermarket chargepipe and not run into any warranty problems. It's probably the only mod a SA would recommend on these cars with the amount of chargepipe failures.

The only thing is, one would have to question why the pipe broke? As in the dealer may do some investigating. Tune or JB installed...? My charge pipe was fine till I had a flash tune installed. 2d WOT run, it ruptured.

Did you have any modifications on the car when they denied coverage? If you had a FMIC or tune for example, they will not cover the charge pipe. It's really not all that expensive to put a better pipe on there, and it saves yourself the hassle of taking it to the dealer every time that plastic pos pipe breaks.

CPs have a higher chance of breaking with higher boost. Plastic expands with high boost. Dealer has every right to reject esp when u failed to remove your tune

He didn't state that he had a tune but I have seen a few stock cars fail @ OEM boost as well.

K. Doesn't matter. You are red flagged so any deal you go to will know. Might as well.just buy an aftermerket cp now. Probably cheaper than buying an oem one from the dealar

Truth but I dont think they red flagged him. I think they are just saying it's not covered under warranty.

If I was the OP I would try another dealer first but in the end I would just go aftermarket. The CP is a 30 min install so it's not like you can't swap back to stock for warranty purposes down the road either.

I never ran mine long enough to find out....ripped that sucker out when I did the FMIC and never looked back.

Unfortunately CPO is not all encompassing, it covers a lot of mechanical parts, but I would not be surprised if it neglected the plastic parts/vac lines. Try another dealer, or ask the dealership to show you the things covered under the CPO, so you can make sure they are not pulling a fast one on you!

CPO can be such bullshit sometimes. I was getting adaptive headlight errors randomly once every month or so... it would go away with a car restart.

While getting my fuel injectors replaced I asked them to take a look at the headlight error. They said there was a short in the headlight but it wasn't going to be covered under CPO. I asked why not and he said that headlights are not covered under CPO.

Wut? Maybe if the lens broke or something like that - but a short in the electricals aren't covered? Really dumb.

JB+ PNP removed prior to dealer visit. Also scanned for codes prior and only threw a 30FF (boost leak).

Dealer simply stated that CP is not covered and labeled it as an "upkeep" item.

I know its a joke....and even funnier is that when they couldn't find the obvious crack in the CP, they tried to blame the boost bypass on the vacuum lines, which are in fine shape

Hey guys, just got the same BS on my 2011 335i with a blown charge pipe, completely stock, 39k miles, never modified, original owner.

Dealership initially claimed that the charge pipe fell under the "vacuum hose" exclusion on the CPO, and thus not covered. Uhh, hello, isn't the "charge pipe" the exact opposite of a vacuum hose? Tons of vacuum lines in the car, yes, but this isn't one of them. I have some BMW extended warranty literature straight from their website that I printed out that specifically calls out the "turbocharged induction system" as being covered. The official name of these pipes are "charge air induction tract", and so should be covered.

Car is fixed, picking up tomorrow. Should be a fun conversation with the service manager and warranty writer. Will let you guys know how it goes, but this is a load of bull. This dealership has been great for service, but man they've been trying really hard to lose me as a customer lately. If they refuse to budge, not only will I be filing a dispute with corporate, but they're going to permanently lose my business as well.
