e90 snapin cradle

hi there, ive just received a media cradle and iphone 4 media snap in...

I thought this may be straight forward , but im asking on here so obviously not lol.....

ok so lets start with my original cradle wiring.....

as you can see it has pins :

2 , 5 , 14 and 16 connected. ok so far....

now the new cradle has:

pins :

2, 3 , 4 , 5 , 11, 12 , 13 , 14

this is going in a 2006 e90 with cic + combox retrofit.

now I thought I could just insert the new pins for audio to the combox and fbas video to cic head unit.

only pins 2 and 5 exist in the new cradle.

audio should be on :

3 = audio left
4= audio ground
12= audio right

video on:

6 = video +
7 = video -
15 = shield

there is no 6, 7 and 15 for video in the new cradle....

does any one have a picture of a media cradle connector or know the pinout..?

this just seems strange as it supposed to be a media cradle......

looks like ive sorted the pinout....

2 = Ground
3 = Left out
4 = Audio ground
5 = 12v

11 = Audio Shield
12 = Right out
13 = ignition 12v (read that white is switched 12v ignition)
14 = Charge signal from TCU/Combox

ah damn looks like the wrong eject box for video.

its part number :

84109158069 which is listed as 6NF Base plate

I think that's just the 6nr wiring from the baseplate plug to the cic , we're actually missing the wiring for the video from the actual base plate to the baseplate wiring connector.

I'll take a look in our workshop if I get time today , but like the old charge snapin ,bmw never connect pins on the baseplate which they never intended using

im sure this can be converted.....had a quick look this afternoon and the baseplate is used as a pass through device....all the electronics is in the iphone 4 snap in.....

the audio is passed straight from the snapin through the baseplate to the 18 pin connector....

just need to find which 2 pins on the baseplate is used for video.....

will have to get the good oscilloscope out....

Hahaha

Will have a play tommorow hopefully......

The fix if it works will not be for the faint hearted if you have no soldering skills

So tommorow I'm going plug it in first to make sure everything works.....then the fun starts......

here it is:

if your going to be using the proper oem connectors.....

run wire from video + to pin 6 of the 18 pin baseplate connector

run wire from video - to pin 7 of the 18 pin baseplate connector

I rewired my video and audio out from the 18 pin baseplate connector and put phonos/rca connectors on them. I already had female connectors from when I used the video/audio and usb cable.

I think taking apart the base plate doesn't really need a tutorial....its self explanatory when you have one in your hands....

Woah that's awesome! Glad to have helped your project out.. you sure didn't take long to figure that one out Chris! wish you lived next door so you can give me a hand =)

So.. from the snap in base plate.. I see you added 2 wires for the video out.. these run to the 18 pin base plate connector? I need to do the FBAS mod after this right?

Yea 2 wires to the baseplate connector....then all you got to do is wire from the baseplate to the cic for video. I don't like to hang around when I got something todo lol.

Stupid question, but whatever.
What is this cradle thingy for? I got one in my car, I don't have iDrive, and I also dont have the OEM HU. Is it of any use for me?
I'm planning to throw it out and replace it with the storage tray, for more storage and a place to put AUX and USB in plugs.

There are 3 versions of the baseplate.

1. For charging phone (usually requires a tcu)

2. For 6nf media audio only (requires mulf high)

3. For 6nr media audio and video (requires combox)

All these in conjunction with compatible phone cradle.

As you don't have idrive or oem head unit I would just stick a storage tray in there personally
