BMW E90 automatic shift knob broke at P

Hello, I really need some advice on this one.

I was trying to replace my old automatic shift knob for a new one bought from Amazon that looks like the F31 model, the thing is I broke that plastic part that fits in the shifter, and now that broken plastic piece is keeping me from getting the car out of park.

I've tried to take out the piece but without success.

Can I get some advice on how to fix this mess?

I really need help.

Thank you for your help

Try releasing the gear lock solenoid that's under the trim of the shifter, take a screwdriver and press it in. It's should give you full gear access to pull into, please update if that works

I'm talking about the piece that fits in the hole of the gear stick like in the image.

If the broken piece inside the shifter leg is hollow (can't see from the pic) maybe you can try with some pair of thin pliers, inserting it and applying force towards the outside... or a big broken screw extractor that'll grip on the plastic... nothing to do, these suckers will get brittle over time ahah

I would follow the above advice, if it still doesn't budge. You may be able to shake it out? I know there's 3 bolts holding down the shifter and maybe you can unbolt and turn it enough to make it slide. Otherwise maybe a shop-vac to suck it out?

Yeah ahah, that sucks. Well, I tried with two log screwdrivers but it's really stuck.

I'll buy today a screw extractor and try with that. I'm "glad" I don't need to use the car.

Maybe a try dab of superglue on the end of a screwdriver.

what about a super long self tapping screw or something? just enough to get a tiny bit of bite into the plastic.

Garage List
You could get a vacuum and put a rag over the tube so it doesn’t get pulled into the vac bag
