Am I safe to assume that the M3 console buttons (Power/EDC/Off) are momentary and and are strictly software controlled?

I'd like to swap to the m3 console and repurpose the buttons.

I'm really hoping my assumption is wrong!

Pretty sure your assumption is right. To repurpose them for a latching requirement, you'd need to add in some type of controller, i.e. Arduino. Most likely the code needed for this is posted somewhere on the web, if you don't know how to write your own.

So I talked to an electrical engineer (I work at a company that makes electronic controls), and he said it would be super easy. I think I'm going to try to use the control buttons on the heated seat bar, it'll be a lot cheaper and accomplish the same thing. So once I have results I'll update

What would be super easy and a lot cheaper? I agree, it is easy, and inexpensive...the Arduino was suggested because it is easy and there is a 99% likelihood you could find the code needed already written for it. There are other ways, they just require more work, like transistors that will toggle latched/unlatched from an input(button press). In addition to one of those for each button, you may also need voltage regulators, diodes, resistors, and you'll still need relays because, most likely, whatever you're trying to switch will have a higher current draw...it all depends on what you're actually doing and controlling. All of those come as individual parts, so now you're also buying perforated circuit boards and soldering everything. The Arduino comes in a tiny little pre-assembled package. The relay boards come in combinations from a single, to 16 channels, which are like 15 bucks from Amazon. Yes, you can piece it all together and have some fun(if you're into that type of thing), or buy something mostly ready to go aside from wiring it into your car.

You can rewire existing DCS off button but Power and EDC you will require more work. What are you going to use them for?

I'm going to use them for my exhaust volume control. Right now it's an on-off-on switch, but it's ugly.
