Factory Sub and Rear Deck Speaker Replacements Recommendation

Hey guys,

I have a 2008 BMW 328i with the HiFi system and I need some help with speakers. My passenger under-seat subwoofer and rear passenger deck speaker are blown out. So I'm looking for some not so costly replacements. I'm not looking for upgrades as I'm using the factory HU and factory AMP with no plans to swap. What would be some good drop in replacements.

I had bought some Sony speakers for the rear deck but they are 4ohm and I've been seeing threads saying the factories are 2ohm and 4ohm won't work.

Please help

They will work but the volume will be half as much.
They are all 2 ohm in the stock Hi Fi factory set up.
Not much works because of the thinness of the speakers.
And aftermarket amp produces the most difference.
The Hi Fi amp is very weak. It's the weakest link but
the cheap speakers aren't far behind on the crap scale.

Better to just find some used ones on ebay if you don't want to
invest much money.

Ok so let me ask this

With the stock setup can

I run 2ohm Earthquakes and some 4ohm decks without external tweeters since 2ohm tweeters+2ohm mids in parallel are like 4ohm

If you buy a proper component pair they should have the impedence
rating listed as a pair through the crossover.

Better speakers require more power no matter what the ohms rating
is as a general rule.

This get's back to the problem the Hi Fi amp is a weak piece of crap.

The laws of electricity say the resistance of anything in parallel is halfed if it is
of equal value . Two 2 ohm loads in parallel is 1 ohm.

1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 +.

Just buy the equipment it came with off ebay .

It is kind of obvious you need local help with this.

Look for a Hi Fi system that is about all you can go on.
If you could get the seller to give you close up's you could
match part numbers.

Have you actually looked at these speakers and seen they are bad
or are you assuming they are the cause of the problem and not something
else like the amp going bad. Water on the amp is a common problem
in these.

It was based on not getting any audio out of the rear right deck speaker and none from right passenger under-seat

If you haven't looked at the speaker's and taken them out and tested
them some other way you have know way of knowing what the problem is.
It's much more likely that something is wrong with the amp.
And/Or if you are turning it up and expecting it to sound good it won't
Because the Hi Fi system is incapable of playing something at volume
without distorting.

I’ll pop them out and test them

But problem is not distortion. Speakers play no sound at all

Alright you could be right. I haven’t been driving my car mostly my truck. But I just went out to pull the speakers and started the car for a little heat and when the sound came on the only speakers that played audio were exactly

The driver rear deck
The passenger upper tweeter
The driver under seat woofer

The rest had no audio which were

Driver mid range and tweeter
Passenger mid range
Passenger under seat woofer
Passenger rear deck

You need to check the amplifier area for water.
This is a known problem with these cars .
The amp is behind the drivers rear wheel well under the trunk
floor covering .

I don’t see any signs of water

Yeah it looks pretty clean .
You might try re seating the connector
make sure the Radio is off and maybe the dissconnect the battery.
It's done with the lever on the connector.

It’s pretty late now so I’ll pull the harness and reseat. I’ll also check the connector behind the head unit as well.

So it looks like the issue is behind the head unit. Loose connections

It's always good to check the basic's first which means a visual
and reseating connectors and these cars you always want to check
the battery voltage on the alternator voltage before going deeper.

Good job.

It's on me as i had installed a Xtron Headunit. It looks like the harness from the headunit for the Xtron is the issue. Do they make a harness adapter that plugs into the factory harness that i can use and than wire to my Xtron Head unit

This the HU
