Has anybody tried repairing hairline cracks with heat resistant epoxy/glue? For me it takes around 2 hours to replace these things, so it's worth a try. Also they are mounted directly to the engine which is why I think they crack, I'm going to try adding small rubber bushing on the bolts to see if that helps

I would just replace it. Not worth torpedoing your motor

Yea trust me I'd choose to replace it over fixing it but I currently have no job from the rona and it's also not my daily

And change your oil filter housing gasket if it hasnt been.
Cracking could be due to oil in coolant. If so flush system as well.

BMW fanatic on YouTube sold his cracked one to someone who fixed them so it can be done.

There is an all aluminum pump out there you can get.
I wouldn't try fixing it.

I remember hitting a big pot hole and the next day I saw water under the car. I did an oil cooler retrofit a couple months ago on my 07 so I replaced gaskets while I was at it. I decided to not fix it and went to the junkyard and pulled one out for $20, it's been working fine so far

My water pump just went out today, what is everyone using? I'm thinking I'll go with the OEM thermostat and replace the pump with a cheaper aftermarket. Any reason I can't go with aftermarket on either of these? Important parts so I want to make sure I don't get junk.

I don't have an answer....but I'm curious about the metal water pump I've seen. These seem to fail from various cracks in the plastic housings and I'd think the metal housings would rectify that and take a frequent maintenance item off the list for good right?

You didn't say what engine you have but for N52, the Pierburg pump IS the OE pump, so you can't go wrong there.

It shows you have a 335i as well. For me I bought a $30 thermostat on eBay 3 years ago and it's been great. Will you be doing the work yourself? If you do just check the warranty on eBay water pumps, they're mostly around 2 years. If you pay someone to install it, buy the oem part with longer warranty.

Damn $30? I ordered the kit from FCP, it was like $400 with thermostat, water pump and a gallon of coolant. It looks like the OEM with BMW scraped off.

It's an N55 and I'll be doing the work. I have x-drive, so it's going to be a pain.

Can't go wrong with FCP's warranty. As a side note zerex makes BMW-approved pre-mixed G-48 coolant available at stores.

Yea with the pump $50 total in parts lol it's not necessary but if you remove the Intercooler it opens up a lot of space

I use distilled water with a bottle of water wetter but I live in south Florida where's it's always hot and it's not the daily

So this was a pain. I was going to drop the subframe so I would have more clearance, but the engine support bar I borrowed from a friend did not work. This would have been a lot easier, because the subframe on all wheel drive is so much bigger than rwd. Anyway, I got it knocked out on Saturday, turned into an 8 hour job due to hose clamps positioned poorly so that I could not get a screwdriver or wrench/socket on them easily. I re-oriented the clamps so that next time I can just get a screwdriver on them.

That's great, it took me around the same time the first time I did mine so not bad for an x drive

I saw a video of a guy doing it super fast on an x-drive. He removed the tank and the fan and had pretty easy access to the clamps from above. I didn't do that on my RWD e91, but I'm tackling on my x-drive e60 next week that's been through a 2e85 code for about 20k miles and seems like it'll never die.
