centre speaker wiring

Hi

This is a great build and something I am looking to copy with my F10.

I would like to ask the forum a question as I am learning everything to install from the forums.

How do you connect the centre speaker into the quadlock? Do I need to obtain a special connector for the speaker wire? If so does anyone have the part number?
Alternative would I be able to use the centre speaker harness from another BMW in the range?

If any one has a picture that would be appreciated.

Or do I need to run a the centre speaker all the way to the amp in the boot?

I will be using a technics harness on a UK base spec car - Front - 2 subs, 2 mids and rear 2 mids.
And upgrading to:
base subs
front - HK mid and tweeter
centre - HK mid and tweeter
rear - HK mid and tweeter.

A will probably install a JBL MS8, but I may use a 5 channel amp (and losing the centre speaker). To retain front and rear PDC.

Many thanks.

Gary

The centre speaker will connect to the MS8, either directly or with an amp inbetween. The MS8 produces the channel for it. It doesn't connect to the Quadlock.

You can't produce a mid channel without some form of processor (exception being some form of phantom centre channel created from the front left and right I recall reading somewhere). With an MS8 you won't lose your PDC.

Hope that helps

Thanks B33M3R - thats very helpful to know about needing to run a separate centre speaker cable to the JBL MS8.

B33M3R, just to echo what has been said so many times, thanks for going to the effort to make your DIY.

I have a new to me 330i, that i'm balanced between giving to a respected installer, or saving money and perhaps being able to afford a DSP like the Audison Bit 10 and doing it myself.

I'm ok-ish with working on and around cars, and while i know this would be a challenge, i'd not even consider it without your walkthrough.

Great job

If you are in the UK

If you are in the UK see this guy

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=704363
or
http://www.monsteraudiodesign.co.uk/
has kits .

You need to figure out which system you have first.
Do some research . Be careful who you take it to a good test would
be to see if they can identify which of three system you have.

What an amazing job

My hopes of doing this on my own went down the toilet after reading what a pita the read deck speakers are

I wouldn't even bother with adding center channel - just front doors, subs, amp and rear deck

Wish I can find a reputable installer around ne pa

Mobile Edge in Lehighton is a multi Retailer of the Year. They do great work but they probably only install their own gear.

Where about in NE PA ? We have a lot of clients that travel in from that area.

I heard those guys at Unexpected Creations in Edison, NJ, which is pretty close, know A LOT more than anyone else in the area about BMW's. They are also multi retailer of the year award winners.

Don't bother replacing rear deck speakers, waste of time and money.

I read it on the Internet, so I know it's true.
