Pure Stage 1 w/ DV+ & Inlet

I am thinking about upgrading to a Pure Stage 1. I am sticking to 93 only since I do not have E85 near me. I also will not be doing meth. I would most likely stay on MHD stage 2+ file or get a custom MHD tune. I doubt I would peak over 19 psi. My question is, would the DV+ and Inlet be worth it? I am not sure how much psi the OEM DV can handle. Is 19 psi too much for stock DV? Is there that much more air flow where the inlet would be noticeable?

This is the same setup I have been thinking of as well, as the Stage 2 is out of my budget. I would definitely get the DV+ as the stock DV is not very good and will possibly leak under high boost. It is very easy to change out during the turbo install. As well I think the upgraded inlet pipe is more recommended for the stage 2 setup, as I don't think it will produce much gains with the stage 1 setup. But would like to hear what other members say.....

Guys, the only thing the PS1 will get you is better boost to redline. It still falls off over 6k, but not 5300 like the stock turbo and it doesn't fall off as hard. It feels like the stock turbo that should have been on the car.

You are not going to see a big power increase, maybe 20whp but you can wait longer to shift. It isn't a terrible mod, but I try to steer people towards the PS2 because that is a much better bang for the buck. I have had my PS1 since they came out.

Do you have to get a custom tune for PS1?

PS2 is over twice the cost and I don't want to spend that for a mod on a 7 year old car. With the turbo, inlet, DV+, and install it is over $4500 for the PS2. PS1 is only around $2000 with turbo and install cost. I am just looking for a little extra to keep me occupied until I get into another Audi. B9 S4 or S5 Sportback is my next move.

Running a custom map on the JB4. You honestly can't hardly tell the difference except you get about another 1k rpm up top before it falls off. If you are fine with stock turbo power levels but want it to pull better to redline, then go for it. If you are looking for a power boost, then skip it and go PS2.

The problem is the restriction on the stock turbo is the turbine side, so increasing the induction side isn't helping anything really. The PS2 increases the turbine size quite a bit and that is where the real gains are.

I have the Purestage 1 with all bolt on possible.

The only thing you need to know before you buy this it's not an upgrade.

It's only to put the powerband at good place. It's like to put the good parts for good car factory.

You can change gear arround at 6400-6800 rpm that's more pleasure.

But don't buy this for doing big horsepower. You will not be happy

Exactly what I said, it extends the power band, but only gives minimal peak HP gains.

Has anyone got quotes for install on a PS1? I have been quoted 10 and 12 hours for the install. I am xdrive. From what I have researched, this should only be a 4-6 hour job.

I don't know how many hours it took, but I paid close to $1000 for PS turbo install. I actually paid that twice , as PS2 came out after I got PS1 and I upgraded to PS2.

My advice to anyone thinking of buying PS1 is to save your money until you can afford PS2. PS1 is a nice little bump but PS2 is way better. The only exception to this advice is if you really want to keep the OEM DP. I didn't get rid of the stock DP until after I got PS2 and it made a big difference. PS2 can't breathe fully with the OEM DP. If someone wanted to keep their OEM DP I could see getting PS1, but if you have or are willing to switch to an aftermarket DP or HFC then PS2 is the way to go IMO/IME!

So just to be clear.. getting a DV+ & Inlet on a stock turbo won't give you really any gains? Seems like it would be more reliable to get a DV+ & Inlet regardless if you don't have a PS2.

I went PS2 with DV and inlet and it was easily the best mod I've ever done. I paid $3100 (I got a deal and didn't have to pay install) Very reputable shop. I'd recommend calling multiple shops, asking for a quote and price matching. I had gotten prices around $3600 before going with the other shop.

The stock DV will eventually leak. So it's always worth upgrading especially with over 35K miles on it.

People who have replaced it have found better response, more power, lower WGDC to hit same boost targets.

Thanks for the info Jeff! Was planning on upgrading this for reliability purposes.

As for the Inlet pipe, assuming with a stock turbo it wouldn't do much as far as power or reliability right?

I just put a PS1 and DV+ in my 135i two weeks ago. You can PM me with questions or look for my threads on 1addicts.

For the first couple of days I wasnít sure it was worth the hassle but then I switched to map 6 on JB4 and started playing with the boost targets (I did a lot of research on n54tech first). Iíve been at 17psi from 3k to 5500rpm then taper down to 14. Itís a whole new beast!!

Let me the OP, I run 93 octane pump and Iím not looking to run fuel cocktails.

All good so far except it looks like I need to go with Stage 2 LPFP. Thatís an easy job and not too bad $$.

dr, if you aren't looking to run fuel cocktails, e.g. e85, you most likely have no need for a Stage 2 LPFP. That is unless you end up getting bit by the power bug like the rest of us.

My logs are showing a weak pump. No problems on map 1 and 2 but the 17psi over a broad range on map 6 are too much. If I’m going to replace the pump then I’d like to have the extra headroom. You never know.

There is no LPFP sensor on the N55. If your HPFP is crashing then I would say you have a weak HPFP and should look to replace that. I have not seen any evidence that a LPFP upgrade gives more fueling headroom before the HPFP. I have talked to a couple of forum members that have upgraded their LPFP and still had their HPFP crash at the same demand. One of them even replaced their HPFP with no change. In my opinion you should only upgrade the LPFP if you plan to run supplemental fueling.
