5mm spacer and hub centric ring

so I was able to fit a 5mm spacer as well as the hub centric ring on the hub but theres a bit of overhang. I've got at least 5mm or so of the ring on the hub but with a bit of overhang. havent been able to drive the car yet since I'm doing the headlights but what's the take on that? should I be fine or are there some implications of not having the ring butted up against the hub firmly I'm not thinking about? bump..... anyone see anything wrong with that not sitting completely flush. I'm aware I could possibly get a little wheel vibration but my thinking is its butted flush against the spacer so it should probably be fine. wheres that super critical person to tell me the 1% chance my wheel could explode or something lol.

Theoretically thinking there shouldn't be a problem as the ring is only to centre the wheel and the face of the inside of the wheel will be flush against the spacer and the bolts will hold it onto that face. So it should be fine. Can I ask why the ring is needed? Is it cause the bore of the alloy wheel is different from the original hub ring?

correct, it just fills the gap from an aftermarket hub bore to sit properly on the hub. eliminates wheel wobble while driving at high speed. I didnt think it would be an issue either since theres plenty of it on there and its flush against the spacer but I'm new to bmw cars and they're far finickier than hondas so always best to measure twice and cut once.

Garage List
I asked a similar question when I was adding 8mm spacers, which did not have a ring extension (wouldn't work) and I was told the following points:

The ring is meant to help center the wheel, not take any loading during driving. The loading is handled by the bolts/studs. Now because the ring isn't centering the wheel when installing it was suggested that when torquing the wheel to slowly creep up to the torque value, ie) start at 40 lb/ft, then 60, the 88 or whatever your spec is. This will help ensure the tapered bolts are properly centering the wheel and you don't clamp it down off-center by accident.

wtf are half you guys even talkin about?

Since when did BMW move from a HUB centric design to LUG centric design? Of course the hub centric rings are necessary because the hub bares the weight of the vehicle! Hence the term HUB CENTRIC.

OP since you have a very early E90 (one of the first) what I think might be happening here is that the hub is lip on your car is longer than on most other (newer) cars. Here's a perfect example:
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=602582

It's also why Turner makes this disclaimer:
10mm Fitment Note: You must be very careful when fitting 10mm spacers to any BMW. Since the depth of the hubcentric lip will vary, you risk bottoming out of the spacer before it sits flush with the hub. This will leave a gap between the spacer and the hub, seriously compromising the strength of the spacer. The lip on the car may need to be shaved down so the 10mm spacer will fit flush on the rotor hat.

Long story short, I would measure it to be sure. Having "overhang" sounds like a not so smart idea, especially on wheels which are expected to turn your vehicle.

I always thought with such a small spacer (5mm) that a hub-centric ring is not required.

H&R offer 5mm spacers without the hubcentric ring and they call it a "DR system" spacer whatever that means.

you're correct, I thought the plastic ring inserts they were using also had a lip.
