Unplugged these to do the valve cover gasket job and the tape i had marking them fell off. I assumed the shorter plug went to the closer plug while the longer went with the farther away one.

I'm assuming the car wouldn't start if they were swapped?

Those are your o2 sensors and you would get a fault code if they were plugged in wrong. They read emissions before and after the catalytic converter

okay. Seems i got them correct as i don't have fault codes. Unfortunately I have the dreaded eccentric shaft sensor codes 2a31 2a32 2a47

I just replaced the valve cover gasket and opted for a refurbished part. I can't beleive i have to pull my cover off again
I pulled the plug off it and there is oil in it. My old one had oil in it but never gave codes. I tried swapping my spark plugs and got misfires on all cylinders. Swapped them back to the old ones and misfires gone. Having the worst luck with this car.

Todays lesson: Don't buy refurbished eccentric shaft sensors!

Should i try packing the connector with di-electric grease? I tried contact cleaner and blowing it out with air.

That sucks...... Did those codes show up as an SES light or just pulled by a scanner?

Both, plus it runs kinda crap.

unrelated but noteworthy, I had to my old spark plugs back in because they new ngk iridiums made misfires on all cylinders. maybe i need to use a torque wrench on them and wipe off the anti-seize.

When I changed my spark plugs I did some extensive research and found that no anti seize is needed for the plugs. I don't remember why but I know you don't need it for a certain reason.

Tried di electric grease and no change. The service engine soon light is not on anymore. Car vibrates a bit like it did before vcg change. It still has all three eccentric shaft codes. Wondering if the plug is situated properly. Does it need to rotate or anything funny? I just dropped it straight down on the eccentric shaft sensor.

The plug will seat then turn 90ish degrees to lock in. In it's final locking position it will sit parallel with the bumper, in other words the wire will run out towards the passenger wheel.

It is as described but I didn't need to twist anything. The corresponding pins line up fine and its not going anywhere and its parallel with the bumper. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and order a new eccentric shaft sensor and send this junk back. At least this time I probably wont have to clean much off the engine. Thinking about trimming my windshield cowl to make it easier.
