E91 335D Oil Leak help
Hey all.
Driving home yesterday and I had a low oil indicator show up. So I let the car cool down and checked the dipstick. I found it below the minimum mark. I was scratching my head trying to understand how I lost so much oil. There's no oil in the coolant tank and no oil being burnt and coming out of the exhaust. I did how ever find this to the left side of the engine. Has anyone had this issue before? |

Yes it the picture just under the intake manifold. It looks like carbon but there’s oil there to. It looks evident that’s it’s been going down the engine block.

What’s the mileage on the car, if the manifold gaskets haven’t been replaced that will explain the oil running down the side of the block.
That doesn’t answer your question about oilconsumption Btw |

just done an oil change on my 330d e90,,i use an electric pump,,extracted close to 8 litres of oil,,put 7.5 litres back in,,dipstick only shows just on minimum,,this is after leaving car for 10 mins then dipsticking,,the correct oil fill is 7.5 litres..when oil is hot/warm i think it probably expands like most things,,or ive had a little bit to much oil in,,so my answerr to this is,,do not put to much in

Also curious to know as I’ve got that same thing on mine. Had a lot of oil around the sump area and the last couple of oil changes I’ve lost about 3 litres of oil in 10k miles. Not showing as a proper leak on my driveway though which is weird ...

The leak pictured is from the swirl flaps/inlet manifold gaskets.
If you're losing oil without it dripping anywhere in significant quantities, the chances are it's escaping through your CCV, and the engine is burning it off. |

Yeah figured that was it. Went in to change the VCG but couldn’t actually see oil around it so figured it was probably the manifold.
Guessing it’s not really a drama losing oil through the CCV then? |

No biggie really...happens a bit on the M57. 3L in 10k would have me just checking a few things, but I'd not stress unless there were other symptoms.

There’s a bit of a leak underneath. Done the VCG and looked around the oil filter housing. Figure it could be the sump or rear seal but they aren’t jobs I’m likely to do myself on the driveway so I’ll probably just leave it and run it as it is.
